MotoGP Experience With Ducati 2

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, here I’m once again, telling you that if there’s one sport that I absolutely love and have followed religiously for as long as I can remember, it’s MotoGP – the pinnacle of two-wheel motor racing. Now, thanks to the nature of my job, I’ve had my fair share of opportunities to visit MotoGP venues and watch the racing action live from close quarters. Not to mention, I’ve also had the privilege to interact with and interview some MotoGP riders. Life was good. Life was perfect, both as a MotoGP fan and as a journalist.  It couldn’t get better for me. Or so I thought until this year’s Thailand Grand Prix.

Roughly a month ago, Ducati called us up and told me that they would like to exclusively host us at the Thai GP, held between Oct 25 and 28. They said it’s going to be extra special this year and asked if I’d be interested in attending. ‘Well, Diwali came early this year,’ I thought to myself, and a few days later, I was on a flight to Bangkok.

The Thai GP is held every year at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram – a small town but a huge sports hub in Thailand. Connectivity to the circuit is good, but there’s no denying that it’s a bit far from Bangkok City. You can either drive down, which takes roughly six hours, or take a quicker option, which is to take another flight to Khon Kaen. On this occasion, I opted for the latter – a short flight of roughly an hour, followed by another three- or four-hour drive, depending on traffic or the number of stops you make, which isn't something that hard to do, for those Café Amazon outlets on Thai motorways serve amazing coffee.

After landing in Khon Kaen around noon, I headed straight to the track. Thanks to the impeccable road network, I reached the gates of the Chang International Circuit on Friday, at around 4pm local time. Luckily, I made it in the nick of time for the final practice session. I did manage to catch the MotoGP action live on day 1, and honestly, it never fails to send chills down my spine when I watch MotoGP bikes zip past at breakneck speeds, tearing through the air as their exhausts leave a spine-tingling rumble in their wake. It’s quite a sensory experience, and then some! However, on this occasion, there was something that overshadowed it and felt even more special. It was my seat in the house to watch the race –  or should I just say, it was the whole house?

Bric Box Office

For the Thai GP weekend, I stayed at the track-side hotel, known as Bric Box. Located right by the track around Turn 8, 9, and 10,  it’s an 80-room facility, built from containers across three floors. There’s a bar and a lounge, where you can hang out all day and watch the action from close quarters with friends and family – or you can make new friends from all across the globe, as I did, who share your passion for MotoGP.

Long story short, if you are someone who lives and breathes MotoGP or are a fan of motorsports in general, trust me, this is the place to be. The kind of immersive experience it provides, along with a panoramic view of the whole circuit, makes for a memory of a lifetime. Of course, it’s not a five-star facility, and you only get a single motel-style bed along with other basic amenities, but it more than does the job. And, come to think of it, would you care about the size of your bed when your morning alarm bell is the roar of MotoGP bikes, or the fact that you might have a certain ex-MotoGP racer in the room next to yours (Hello there, Karel Abraham!)?

What’s more, if you decide to tag along with Ducati, like I did, you get even more special treatment and a whole lot of luxuries as a MotoGP fan. They offer you access to the Ducati VVIP Box, which gives a prime viewing spot right above the team garages in the pitlane. We also got an opportunity to meet and greet the Ducati Corse Team – Pecco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini. And, of course, you can gorge on some amazing cuisines at the VVIP box. Now, all of this doesn’t come cheap, for sure. The total package costs ₹2.75 lakh (excluding airfare). However, once you reach Buriram, you don’t have to move a limb, literally – it’s an all-inclusive affair.

If you ask me, considering the fact that you spend three nights and four days at the facility, enjoy the racing action while devouring some amazing food and drinks, and get access to the who’s who of MotoGP, it’s actually a bargain. There’s nowhere in the world where you’d get this kind of experience as a motorsport fan, and this kind of value for your money, if I may add.

The only challenge, however, is the availability of rooms. You see, it’s a place that’s always in high demand, for obvious reasons. Plus, the next Thai GP is going to be the season-opening round in 2025, and Marc Marquez is joining factory Ducati next year – it’ll be his first race in the red suit. So, of course, there’s a lot more interest than usual. From what I know, all the rooms have already been spoken for, although if you really want to attend, don’t hold back and reach out to Ducati India. Trust me, it’s totally worth it.

Ducati Dominance continues

The icing on the cake for Ducati at Thai GP was them taking both wins in the sprint (Bastianini) and main race (Bagnaia). So, obviously, everyone at the Ducati VVIP box was…let’s just say, ecstatic with the results. What’s more, in the sprint race, all eight Ducatis on the grid finished and locked the top eight spots, making it the first time for any manufacturer to achieve this feat in MotoGP. Now, you can call it the ‘Ducati Cup’ all you want, but there’s no denying that Ducati is absolutely annihilating the competition. Thailand was just yet another reminder. Not to mention, the title fight is now a two-way battle between Bagnaia and Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin. Whoever wins the title, it’s going to be a win-win for Ducati. And, tell you what, going by how things are at the moment, it seems no one will have the measure of Ducati even in 2025. Plus, the combination of Marquez and Bagnaia is sure to bring some fireworks next year. What a time to be a Ducatista!

I honestly can’t wait for the next season. So… Ducati India, would you have some spare rooms at Bric Box in 2025? Yep, I won’t mind doing all the hard work again, not one bit!
