Royal Enfield Adventurer XT

When it comes to the world of riding gear, there’s hardly anyone who’s as active in the Indian market as Royal Enfield. Over the years, they’ve made some fantastic improvements to their riding gear range and the value they provide. However, their recent launches show their improvement rate has gone through the roof. Be it the Sahara Air jacket that we reviewed recently or their latest Adventurer XT collection that we are talking about here – the improvements are massive.

So much so that right off the bat, I would say the Adventurer XT collection is nothing short of a product that can hold its own – rather well – amongst the best winter riding gear in the world. With a combined price of about ₹41,000, you get a set of gear that makes you content about the money spent and not leave you wanting for more in any department.

And while this price tag could seem steep, when you compare its price-to-value proportion to the said best winter gear in the world, you immediately realise how much they have managed to achieve in this price bracket.

The gear set is 100% waterproof and both the jacket as well the pants come with detachable down liner to keep you warm in extreme cold conditions. Both come with CE Class AA certification and get CE level 2 armour at shoulders, elbows, back, knee and hip and CE level 1 at the chest. The thing to note is that since they are fully waterproof, it makes them all the more suitable for extremely cold weather conditions as there’s minimal vents to let air through. The jacket sort of ‘packs you in’ to shield from both water seepage as well as gusts of wind. As a result, the gear – as per Royal Enfield – is best suited for temperatures between -15°C to 9°C. But do keep in mind, cold weather expeditions it will ace but everyday riding gear it is not, unless you live in a city that gets quite cold that is.

The fit was as expected and true to size. Add to that ample adjustability options available wherever you would usually expect from a riding gear at this price point, and you can find a very snug and cozy fit with this range. Other things to note is you get waterproof pockets with waterproof zippers all over and the large waterproof rear pocket on the jacket is a handy addition. There are several reflective panels too but what I particularly liked was the lacing system around the forearm which can be adjusted with a screw system that makes the whole process a lot easier to use while on the move and it even looks and functions better than the usual Velcro strap-based mechanism.

The winter liner jacket was a pleasant surprise too. The design is such that you can wear it as a regular jacket when you don’t have the outer shell on. The quilted jacket design even comes with pockets and that’s a nice touch. And, if you have both the jacket as well as the pants, like we did, you can zip them together as well for an even better fit. Lastly, the jacket also comes with detachable hood to avoid snow in your hair!

Overall, the Royal Enfield Adventurer XT – as you may have guessed by now – left me beyond impressed. The fit and finish was great and even with the capabilities that the gear offers, it wasn’t as heavy as I would expect it to be. It looks and feels like a million bucks and has a rather modern design as well. So, if you are in the market on the hunt for a new set of riding gear and are aiming for a trip to a colder region of our country, or if you happen to live at a place where it gets freezing cold, the Adventurer XT is pretty much as good as it gets.
