Kia-Syros-Long-Term-Report-May-2025

A month and 1200 kilometres in the driver’s seat of the new Kia Syros Diesel Automatic, and the initial (good) impression hasn’t faded. In fact, living with it daily has only solidified its position as a serious contender to be a legit all-rounder. As someone who is more of an all-out SUV fan, the Syros has surprisingly impressed me with its blend of practicality, efficiency, features and modern flair.

One of the standout features that continues to delight is the sheer amount of space on offer, both up front and in the rear. Legroom, headroom, and shoulder room are all generous, making even longer journeys with a full load of passengers a comfortable affair. Adding to this sense of spaciousness is the minimalist interior design dominated by the 30-inch Trinity Panoramic Display. This seamless integration of the infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and even controls for the HVAC system (via a touch-based negative LCD) into one expansive screen is remarkably intuitive.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine, paired with the automatic transmission, continues to be a smooth and efficient performer. The ample torque makes light work of both city traffic and highway cruising, and the automatic gearbox offers seamless shifts, prioritising ease of driving. Real-world fuel efficiency has remained consistent, hovering around the 14-15km/l mark in mixed driving conditions, which is commendable for a diesel automatic which feels so effortless to drive, yet punchy.

However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. The MPV-like design, while maximising interior space, might not appeal to everyone seeking a more traditional SUV silhouette. While practicality reigns supreme here, some might find the overall profile a tad too van-like. And let’s face it, the bold exterior styling is definitely an acquired taste. Another minor annoyance I’ve encountered is the AC blower’s tendency to default to the floor vents upon every start-up. While easily adjustable, it’s a quirk that I hope Kia can address.

Despite these minor drawbacks, the positives of the Syros diesel automatic significantly outweigh the negatives. The exceptional seating space, modern and user-friendly features, and refined powertrain make it a compelling package. It cleverly blends family-oriented practicality with a good dose of high-end technology and comfort. After a month of use, the Syros has proven to be a capable and comfortable companion on Indian roads, ticking many of the right boxes for those prioritising space, technology, and efficient performance. Especially, if you are a mid-level professional who is looking for a no-frills, value-for-money proposition.
