Ferrari has confirmed SF-26 as the official name of its 2026 Formula 1 car ahead of the January 23 launch. The name sticks to Ferrari tradition, with SF standing for Scuderia Ferrari and 26 pointing to the season. For anyone who follows Formula 1 closely, this is one of those moments that tells you work behind the scenes is moving fast. The timing matters too, as 2026 brings a full regulation reset. Ferrari has been clear about where its focus sits, even if it meant giving up on short-term results. The SF-26 name alone brings focus back to Maranello and starts the countdown to seeing how Ferrari plans to take on the next phase of Formula 1.

The SF-26 runs under the development name Project 678. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will drive for Ferrari in the 2026 season. Ferrari stopped development of the SF-25 in April 2025 to put full resources into this new car.
That call followed a 2025 season where Ferrari finished fourth in the constructors’ standings without a race win. Hamilton completed his first Ferrari season without a podium, while Leclerc ended the year fifth in the drivers’ standings. With new rules on aerodynamics, electrical power and sustainable fuels coming in 2026, Ferrari chose to look ahead.
Ferrari will unveil the SF-26 and its livery on 23 January at Maranello, with the car set to roll out for a short shakedown at the Fiorano test track soon after.
