Alpine F1 has confirmed Franco Colapinto will replace Jack Doohan for five races starting at the Emilia-Romagna GP 2025. The move, described as a driver “rotation” with Pierre Gasly, comes during internal changes, including the resignation of Team Principal Oliver Oakes. Flavio Briatore now leads the team. Doohan’s struggles in his first full F1 season, including a crash at the Miami GP, prompted Alpine to reassess. Despite a 2025 promotion, he has failed to match teammate Gasly’s pace.
Colapinto, Alpine’s reserve driver after a strong nine-race run with Williams in 2024, now gets a chance to prove himself. His performance could shape Alpine’s future driver lineup.

Franco Colapinto: 'Firstly, I want to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to drive competitively for the next five races. I will work hard with the team to prepare for the next race in Imola and the upcoming triple-header, which will no doubt be intense and a big challenge for everyone. I have stayed sharp, and I am as ready as possible with the team’s race support testing programme, as well as on the simulator at Enstone. I will do my best to get up to speed quickly and give it my all to deliver the best possible results alongside Pierre.'
Jack Doohan: 'I am very proud to have achieved my lifelong ambition to be a professional Formula One driver and I will forever be grateful to the team for helping me achieve this dream. Obviously, this latest chapter is a tough one for me to take because, as a professional driver, naturally I want to be racing. That said, I appreciate the team’s trust and commitment. We have long-term goals as a team to achieve and I will continue to give my maximum efforts in any way I can to help achieve those. For now, I will keep my head down, keep working hard, watch with interest the next five races and keep chasing my own personal goals.'
Jack Doohan’s seven-race stint with Alpine has shown speed but also major errors, including incidents in Miami and Suzuka, raising concerns about his F1 future. Franco Colapinto returns to the F1 grid with Alpine after a mixed 2024 season with Williams. He scored points in Baku and Austin but crashed in Sao Paulo and Las Vegas.
Alpine’s decision to rotate drivers follows speculation around its F1 lineup, especially after Colapinto joined as reserve and Team Principal Oliver Oakes resigned. The next five F1 races are crucial. Doohan must reset and improve, while Colapinto aims to secure a full-time seat. Their performance will shape Alpine’s 2025 plans.
