The prospect of Formula 1 returning to India is closer to reality than ever as the Adani Group moves to take control of the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Greater Noida. This world-class track, which famously hosted the Indian Grand Prix between 2011 and 2013, remains a fan favourite due to its technical layout and the vibrant energy of its inaugural race weekends. By acquiring the circuit as part of a larger acquisition of Jaypee Group assets, the Adani Group aims to revitalise the venue and secure a permanent fixture on the FIA World Championship calendar, ending a decade-long absence from the global motorsport map.

Karan Adani has confirmed that high-level negotiations are ongoing to facilitate this high-profile F1 comeback, focusing on a sustainable, long-term operational model. Unlike the previous era, which was cut short by complex financial disputes and the controversial 'entertainment tax' classification, this new vision emphasises robust infrastructure and professional event management. The goal is to establish a stable structure that ensures the Indian GP becomes a reliable pillar of the F1 schedule, backed by the logistical expertise of one of India’s largest conglomerates and supported by local authorities in Uttar Pradesh.

The Buddh International Circuit already holds FIA Grade 1 certification, and with limited upgrades, it could be ready to host Formula 1 races again soon. The plan goes beyond one race weekend, with the aim of turning the BIC into a year-round hub for international motorsport. The focus is on hosting multiple racing categories and keeping the venue active across the calendar, ensuring it remains commercially viable and relevant in the global motorsport space.

The economic implications for the region are substantial, with a reinstated Grand Prix expected to provide a massive boost to tourism and create thousands of jobs across the state. Local authorities are reportedly working closely with the Adani Group to streamline the regulatory and logistical hurdles that hampered the event in the past.

By resolving these historical tax and administrative issues, the partnership aims to create a 'plug-and-play' environment for Formula One Management (FOM), making India an attractive and hassle-free destination for the sport’s expanding global audience.
