Max Verstappen has confirmed he will remain with Red Bull Racing for the 2026 Formula 1 season, putting an end to months of speculation. Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Dutch driver made it clear that, despite the rumours, he is committed to Red Bull. His current contract runs until 2028, but talk of exit clauses has led to doubts about his future. The transfer rumours gained momentum when George Russell revealed Mercedes had spoken to Verstappen’s representatives. The sight of Verstappen and Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff near each other during the summer break only fuelled the chatter. Many believed a move could be on the cards, but Verstappen dismissed the idea, insisting he remains focused on Red Bull.

This news comes during a transitional phase at Red Bull. Team principal Christian Horner, who had been with the team for 20 years, recently stepped down. Though Horner had always backed Verstappen to stay, management changes and ongoing rumours made many question whether the four-time world champion might look elsewhere for stability.

Performance-wise, the 2025 season has been difficult for both Verstappen and Red Bull. Verstappen is third in the drivers’ standings, trailing Oscar Piastri by 81 points. Red Bull also sits fourth in the constructors’ table, behind McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes. The team’s recent struggles mark a sharp contrast to their dominant past seasons.

As the F1 paddock shifts its attention to the upcoming races, the spotlight remains on whether Red Bull can return to form and give Verstappen the car he needs to fight for more titles.
