Mercedes-AMG customer team Iron Lynx will pay tribute to the brand’s iconic 1-2 finish at the 1989 24 Hours of Le Mans by fielding three GT3 cars in a special Silver Arrows livery at the 2025 edition of the race. The livery is inspired by the Sauber-Mercedes C9 and includes the original’s colour-coded door mirrors. While the classic design will appear on all three cars, each one will feature unique sponsor branding to set them apart. The 1989 Le Mans race was a historic moment for Mercedes, with the Sauber-Mercedes C9 cars finishing first and second. The #63 car, driven by Jochen Mass, led the team to victory. His recent passing adds emotional value to Iron Lynx’s tribute.

Andrea Piccini – Iron Lynx Team Principal & CEO, said: 'We are absolutely honoured to partner with Mercedes-AMG for this amazing initiative. We all grew up watching the Silver Arrows compete and dreamed about their outstanding drivers and great races. To now be part of this legacy is nothing short of amazing and is a milestone to remember for our team. We have been working hard since the start of this project to make progress, improve, and be competitive, and we will continue to do so in the weeks ahead of the race to give our absolute best on track. We think Le Mans will welcome the Silver Arrows with incredible passion, and we cannot wait to be there to experience it.'
Christoph Sagemuller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport said: 'For Mercedes-AMG, the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a significant moment – 26 years after the brand with the star last competed. In 1989, Mercedes-Benz celebrated a major success with a one-two victory. We are paying tribute to the legendary Sauber-Mercedes C9 and this triumph from back then in a very special way. The three Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 represent the present in Customer Racing, but with their special Silver Arrow design inspired by the past, they also pay tribute to a piece of history. I am delighted that we are able to continue this history at Le Mans.'
For the 2025 Le Mans 24 Hours, Iron Lynx will enter two full-season FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) entries in the LMGT3 class. The #60 Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be driven by Matteo Cairoli, Matteo Cressoni, and Claudio Schiavoni, all with previous Le Mans experience. The #61 entry features Lin Hodenius, Martin Berry, and Mercedes-AMG factory driver Maxime Martin.
Iron Lynx’s third car, the #63 Mercedes-AMG GT3 will feature a father-son driving team from Australia—Stephen and Brenton Grove—who will make their Le Mans debut. They will race alongside Mercedes-AMG factory driver Luca Stolz, returning to the event after last racing there in 2018.
