Aprilia has confirmed that Jorge Martin will miss the Thai Grand Prix after fracturing his left hand during training on Monday. The reigning MotoGP champion was preparing for the season opener in Buriram when the injury struck, forcing him into surgery. His recovery timeline is uncertain, leaving his return to racing unknown.
Martin’s 2025 season has already been tough, starting with a heavy crash on the first day of testing in Sepang. The accident left him with multiple fractures, forcing him to miss the rest of the pre-season. Aprilia had hoped he would be fit for Thailand, but this latest setback has derailed those plans. Now, fans and the team must wait to see when he will return to the track.

In a post, Aprilia said: 'Jorge Martin will miss the Thai GP due to a left hand and foot injury he sustained during training. Updates will follow, for now, all we can do is wish Jorge the best of luck for a full recovery!'
Jorge Martin will miss the opening race of the 2025 MotoGP season, making him the first reigning champion to do so since Freddie Spencer in 1984. His switch to Aprilia was already a challenge, and with just 90 laps on the RS-GP, his adaptation has been further delayed. Most of his limited testing took place during the post-season Barcelona test, leaving him with little track time before his latest injury setback.
Martin had initially secured a move to Ducati’s factory team for 2025, but Marc Marquez’s refusal to take a works bike at Pramac forced the manufacturer to change plans. As a result, Martin signed a two-year factory deal with Aprilia, where he will race with the number one plate. However, he had already admitted that he wouldn’t be in title contention this year as he focused on adjusting to his new bike.

With Martin sidelined, Aprilia faces a tough start to the season, as their star signing won’t be on the grid. His absence is a major setback for both him and the team, as he now has an even bigger challenge in getting up to speed with the RS-GP. The delay in his adaptation could impact Aprilia’s chances, making his recovery a crucial factor for their 2025 campaign.
