As MotoGP reaches the halfway point of its European run, Marc Marquez is looking strong at the top of the standings. His younger brother, Alex Marquez, is still chasing him but sits 68 points behind. Despite hurting his hand at the last race in Assen, Alex has been given the green light to ride during practice at the German GP. Over at Honda, Luca Marini is also back after recovering from injuries he picked up during testing for the 8 Hours of Suzuka. However, not everyone will be on the grid. Tech3 KTM’s Enea Bastianini is sidelined with appendicitis and has been hospitalised.

MotoGP heads to Germany this weekend for the Sachsenring round, one of the most unique tracks on the calendar. Tucked away in the Saxony forests, the circuit may be just 3.6 km long, but it demands a lot from the riders. With 13 tight corners—10 of them left-handers—riders spend most of the lap leaning to one side, which makes it a tough physical test from start to finish.

The track’s narrow and twisty nature means overtaking is far from easy. There’s barely any room for error, and even the smallest slip can send a rider into the gravel. On the flip side, any hesitation can give a chasing rider the perfect chance to ride past.
