Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP champion, is finally set to ride a MotoGP bike again. He’ll be testing the Aprilia RS-GP25 at Misano in a private session on Wednesday, July 9. This will be his first time back since his brutal crash in Qatar on April 13, where he fractured ribs and suffered lung damage. That Qatar crash changed everything for Martin. It ruled him out of multiple races and disrupted what was supposed to be a strong title defence. He only returned to the track last week, riding a Superbike in Barcelona—his first time on two wheels in three months. While he’s still not fit enough to race at this weekend’s German Grand Prix, doctors have given him the green light to ride at Misano.

The timing of Martin’s return is interesting. Off the track, he’s in talks with Aprilia about a possible 2026 exit clause in his contract. The 27-year-old’s season has been stop-start, having already missed pre-season testing and early races due to separate crashes in Sepang and a Supermoto training accident. For Martin, the Misano test is more than a recovery ride, it’s a chance to show he’s still got what it takes.
This year has tested Martin’s resilience. From his first crash at Sepang to the Supermoto fall that followed, he’s barely had a chance to race. The Misano test could help him find his rhythm again. Though his Superbike outing in Barcelona went well, MotoGP is a different beast, and many will be watching to see how his body holds up under pressure.

Aprilia’s decision to back this test shows they’re still invested in Martin’s return, even with contract questions looming. The team will want to see where he stands physically and mentally. For Martin, it’s an important step in proving that, despite all the setbacks, he’s ready to fight again—just in time for the crucial second half of the season.
