Priced between Rs 1.99 lakh and Rs 2.24 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mavrick 440 is the brand's first middleweight bike for the Indian market. While it rivals the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda CB350, and the Jawa 350, we compare the Hero Mavrick 440 with its platform sibling, the Harley-Davidson X440, to see what distinguishes the two.</p>

<p>Powering Hero's new Mavrick 440 is a 440cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine, which is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. While both the Hero Mavrick 440 and the Harley-Davidson X 440 use the same powertrain and are equally powerful (27bhp at 6,000rpm), the former produces 36Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm, which is 2Nm lower than that of the latter (38Nm at 4,000rpm). <p>Both bikes feature the same trellis frame; however, they have different suspension setups. The Mavrick 440 uses a 43mm telescopic fork at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear, while the Harley-Davidson X 440 gets an upside-down fork at the front and a twin shock setup at the rear.</p>

<p>This is where the differences between the two are more pronounced. The Hero Mavrick 440 is a roadster with a muscular design, a robust fuel tank with integrated tank extensions, a round LED headlamp with an H-shaped daytime running light, small-sized indicators, a single-piece seat, and a slim rear end.</p>

<p>In comparison, the Harley-Davidson X 440, built at Hero MotoCorp’s manufacturing facility in Rajasthan, draws styling cues from the American brand's XR 1200. The X 440 has a chunky front end, featuring a circular LED headlamp with a light bar running across the centre, indicators with Harley logos, and a big fuel tank. The Harley-Davidson X 440, on the other hand, gets mid-set foot pegs, wide and flat handlebars, and an 805mm saddle, all of which allow for a comfortable and sportier riding position.</p>

Internationally, the Sportster S costs $14,999, which roughly translates to Rs 10.95 lakh in today’s conversion rate. However, the Sportster S will be brought to India via the CBU route making the price go higher in the range of Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).</p>

<p>The engine is the same 1,252cc Revolution Max 60-degree V-twin unit that we have seen in the Pan America 1250. But the state of tune is substantially lower when compared to its ADV sibling. The power is marked at 119.3bhp and 127.4Nm, and the six-speed gearbox uses a belt-drive system to forward the power to the wheel.</p>

<p>The electronics safety net includes cornering ABS and traction control based on an IMU. There are five riding modes on offer, three of which are pre-determined and the other two can be customised.</p>

Harley-Davidson Sportster S bookings open; launch soon

Harley-Davidson’s newest sports cruiser is on its way! The brand is accepting the bookings for the same and the launch of the new Sportster S is scheduled for the final quarter of the year 2021.

<p><strong>The new Sportster S is Harley Davidson’s idea of a road-going sport motorcycle. It borrows its engine from the Pan America 1250 and has key traits that can rival the updated Ducati Diavel 1260.</strong></p>

<p>The Harley Davidson Sportster S has been launched internationally. The motorcycle gets the company’s new Revolution Max engine, which comes with liquid-cooling DOHC (Dual Overhead Camshafts) and VVT (Variable Valve Timing). Despite the new mechanical updates, the Sportster S continues with Harley Davison’s traditional styling. Following are the highlights of the newly launched Harley Davidson Sportster S.</p>

<p><strong>Styling</strong></p>

<p>There is no doubt that it is an unconventional sports bike. In fact, it's more like hyper-cruisers or Sportsters, such as the Ducati Diavel 1260. The headlamp assembly exhibits similar styling as that of the Harley Davidson Pan America 1250. The tail is relatively shorter, which appears to be inspired by the Harley-Davidson XR750 flat tracker. This, in turn, largely exposes the rear wheel, adding to the naked look of the motorcycle.</p>

<p><strong>Engine</strong></p>

<p><strong>Cycle parts</strong></p>

<p>The Sportster S shares its engine with its ADV sibling, but its cycle parts are more in line with street-going motorcycles. The Sportster S gets Showa 43mm fully-adjustable USD forks and a Showa rear pre-load adjust mono-shock. For braking, the Sportster S uses a 320mm rotor with a Brembo radial monoblock four-piston calliper at the front and a 260mm rotor with a two-piston Brembo calliper at the back. The five-spoke alloy wheels are shod with the Dunlop/Harley-Davidson Series GT503 rubber.</p>

<p><strong>Electronics&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>There is an IMU-based safety net on the new Sportster, which includes cornering ABS and traction control. The motorcycle also gets five riding modes&nbsp;– three preset modes&nbsp;(Sport, Road and Rain) and two customisable modes. An all-new instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity takes the centre stage on the dash.</p>

<p><strong>India launch</strong></p>

<p>Harley Davidson launched the Pan America 1250 in India in April. The new Sportster S is expected to arrive in the country in the coming months. Internationally, the Sportster S is priced at $14,999 ( around Rs 11.20 lakh). Harley Davidson India has not confirmed the launch of the 2021 Sportster S anytime soon, but we reckon that the American motorcycle company will not miss a chance to rival the BS6 Ducati Diavel 1260.</p>
