Incredible Beast with Smooth Power

The Kawasaki Ninja 500 Metallic Spark Black, which I purchased three months ago, has been an incredible beast! Throughout the rev range, the 451cc parallel-twin engine delivers punchy, smooth power. On highways, I get about 24 to 26 km/l. In city traffic, I get about 20 km/l. I have reached a maximum speed of about 190 km/h. Although a little sporty, the seating is still comfortable for daily rides. The ex-showroom price in Bangalore was ₹5.5 lakh, and the on-road price was approximately ₹6.6 lakh. The aggressive styling grabs attention everywhere, and the build quality feels high-end. Each maintenance service costs between ₹5,000 and ₹6,000. The Ninja 500 is a great big bike for those looking for an affordable, everyday-use model with good performance.

Powerful Midrange & Smooth Ride

After six months of riding my Ninja 500 Candy Lime Green, I'm blown away. The 451cc engine has a powerful midrange punch and a smooth ride, making it ideal for both highway cruising and city sprints. For a twin-cylinder sportbike, I get about 25 to 27 km/l on the highway. Longer rides are comfortable due to the riding position's slight forward lean without being overly aggressive. I rode the bike from Pune to Goa and back, and it handled flawlessly. I've reached a top speed of about 195 km/h. On-road, I spent about ₹6.5 lakh, and each service visit costs roughly ₹6,000. The assist features, slipper clutch, and brakes are excellent additions. For riders moving up from 250–300cc bikes, it's a great machine.

Smooth Power Delivery & Urban Handling

After about four months of use, the Kawasaki Ninja 500 has been an incredible experience for me. Particularly above 5,000 rpm, the power delivery from the 451cc twin-cylinder engine is smooth and produces great power. Despite its sporty design, the bike is surprisingly easy to handle in city traffic, and I get about 23 to 25 km/l. I love the digital display, LED headlamp, and sleek design. On the Delhi–Agra expressway, my fastest recorded speed was 192 km/h. Each service costs me about ₹5,500, and the on-road price in Delhi was roughly ₹6.4 lakh. The Ninja 500 provides a well-balanced combination of performance, comfort, and big-bike feel for those upgrading from a 150cc or 250cc bike.

There’s no denying that retro bikes appeal to our longing for simpler times, with their old-school charm reminding riders of motorcycling’s golden era. Kawasaki, though mainly known for its aggressive supersport lineup, has long cultivated its neo-retro identity through the W series. India currently gets the W175, but the brand has now revealed the W230 for the UK market, scheduled for a 2026 launch, though there’s still no official word on whether it will arrive here. Drawing inspiration from the iconic 1965 Kawasaki 650 W-1, the W230 maintains the tradition of a lightweight build, low seat height, and approachable performance, all designed to bring classic ’60s styling to a broader audience. Ever since it first hit the market last year, the Kawasaki KLX230 has had quite the roller-coaster of a journey – it first made headlines for its extraordinary price tag, and then again for the equally extraordinary drop in it. But at ₹1.84 lakh (ex-showroom), the KLX230 now seems to be in a sweet spot – a steal for anyone dreaming of a light &amp; capable off-road machine with that iconic Lime Green badge. Powering this featherweight machine is a 233cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, which produces 18.37bhp at 8,000rpm and 19Nm at 6,400rpm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. On paper, these numbers might not sound thrilling, but once you twist the throttle, the KLX230’s lively character immediately becomes apparent. It’s one of those bikes that thrives on momentum – it’s light, responsive, and eager to play.

We’d already tested the KLX230 in its natural habitat – off-road – where it was, predictably, impressive. But curiosity got the better of us, so we brought it to our annual track day at the Buddh International Circuit. On the track, the KLX surprised everyone with its punchy low-end torque and unexpectedly quick cornering pace. The generous ground clearance and skinny tyres meant that knee-down antics were best avoided, but the bike’s agility and willingness to lean were undeniable. My colleague Karan, meanwhile, spent more time riding it on one wheel rather than two until we literally had to drag him off the bike to save the fork seals.

With 240mm of suspension travel at the front and 250mm at the rear, the KLX devours rough terrain and lands jumps like a champ. Its slender frame, tall 880mm seat height, and comfortable ergonomics give it the authentic dirt-bike feel while remaining completely road-legal.
