Meanwhile, cumulative FY26 volumes reached 2.30 lakh units, a showing 16% rise over last year. The 3-wheeler segment, including electric models, maintained strong momentum, and saw a sharp 44%&nbsp;year-on-year jump to 9,190 units, while YTD volumes climbed 30% to 1.01 lakh units. On the other hand,&nbsp;the LCV &lt;2T segment witnessed a marginal decline of 4% in monthly sales and a slight 2% drop in YTD figures.</p><h2>Other Highlights</h2><p>Mahindra has confirmed that it will expand its EV lineup in India with a new SUV, internally codenamed BO7. There's no official confirmation, but the upcoming BO7 electric SUV is expected to be based on the Mahindra BE.07 concept&nbsp;that debuted in 2022, and was&nbsp;originally slated to go on sale in October 2026.</p><p>Similar to the brand's existing born-electrics, the BO7 e-SUV is likely to be offered with two battery pack options&nbsp;(59kWh and 79kWh). <p>But… if you’re not obsessed with having an SUV and want a truly capable three-row electric family car, you should take a look at the Kia Carens Clavis EV before writing that cheque to your local Mahindra dealer. The Clavis EV offers comparable real-world performance, a similar set of usable features, and is, in fact, more spacious and more affordable. But is it a better bet than the XEV 9S in the larger scheme of things? Time to find out.</p>

<h2>Design &amp; Dimensions: SUV vs MPV Practicality Compared</h2>

<p>Let’s start with design. The Mahindra is an SUV, while the Kia is an MPV, and honestly, there’s no comparison if all you want is road presence. The 9S is big, burly, and in-your-face. You see it in your rear-view mirror, you’re probably moving aside.</p><p>That said, when you see the Clavis EV in your ORVM, you might mistake it for an SUV, too. Its upright, muscular, and aggressive front end, combined with a sleek LED DRL strip, gives it a surprisingly tough face.</p><p>

<p>Walk around to the side, though, and its MPV proportions become obvious. It’s lower and longer, and it rides on smaller 17-inch wheels (vs 18-inch). The rear tells the same story. The Kia’s design is clean and modern, but nowhere near as butch as the XEV. The Mahindra is longer, wider, and taller, too.</p><p>If you want to make a bold statement with your seven-seat EV, the XEV is the default choice. If you prefer something more subtle yet contemporary, the Clavis EV fits the bill.</p>







<h2>Battery Options, Range, Performance &amp; Charging Comparison</h2>

<p>Before we get to our tests, let’s talk numbers. The Mahindra offers three battery options: 59kWh, 70kWh, and 79kWh. The Kia gets two – 42kWh and 51.4kWh. On capacity alone, the Mahindra has a clear advantage. However, the Kia uses NMC battery chemistry, while the XEV uses LFP cells. This chemistry gives the Clavis EV a higher energy density and a more compact battery pack.</p><p>

The Mahindra also supports up to 180kW DC fast charging, while the Kia supports up to 100kW. Realistically, that’s not a major disadvantage for the Kia, since 100kW+ chargers are still relatively rare even in major metro cities.</p>







<p>Performance is where the XEV stretches its legs. The 79kWh version on test produces 282bhp and 380Nm. Even the smallest battery version produces 228bhp, with torque unchanged. The Kia, in comparison, is significantly less powerful – the larger battery version makes 169bhp and 255Nm, while the smaller one produces 133bhp with the same torque. The Kia is front-wheel drive; the XEV 9S is rear-wheel drive.</p><p>

The Clavis EV sticks to a more conventional non-adjustable setup and gets a torsion beam at the rear. On paper, then, the XEV 9S is the superior machine in most departments. However, there’s one critical area where the Kia pulls ahead – wheelbase. The Clavis EV’s 2,780mm wheelbase is 18mm longer than the XEV’s 2,762mm. That small difference makes a surprisingly big impact for third-row passengers.<br></p>







<h2>Third-Row Space &amp; Comfort: Which EV Is More Practical?</h2>

<p>Ingress and egress first. Thanks to its one-touch tumble function and lower floor, getting into the Kia’s third row is quicker and easier than in the Mahindra, which lacks a similarly convenient folding mechanism. The Carens’ third row is genuinely usable for two average-sized adults. There’s decent legroom, acceptable headroom, and the seats are soft and accommodating. It’s not luxurious, but you could sit here for 3–4 hours without feeling the need to take a break. The backrest reclines, making it easier to find a comfortable position. You also get USB-C ports, AC vents, and cupholders. The only downside is the small windows, which make the space feel a bit claustrophobic.</p><p>

    </p><p>In the Mahindra, the third-row experience is noticeably inferior. The floor is high, so your knees sit uncomfortably elevated. Headroom is tight, and the seat cushioning is much firmer than in the Kia. There are no USB ports either – just a 12V socket. It feels cramped overall. While the Kia’s third row is genuinely usable, the Mahindra’s feels more like an emergency seat, best reserved for kids under 10 – or maybe the family pet.</p>







<p>Ride quality at the back further widens the gap. The XEV’s suspension is overly soft, resulting in constant vertical movement. It feels floaty, never quite settling, and can induce motion sickness.</p><p>

It’s slightly firm, and NVH levels are higher – you hear more wind, tyre, and suspension noise – but at least the occupants don't get tossed around.     </p><p>It offers more creature comforts – ventilated seats, a wireless phone charger, and electric ‘Boss Mode’ controls to slide and fold the front passenger seat. There’s also slightly more space for the middle passenger, along with a proper headrest.</p><p>The Clavis EV’s second row is a bit narrower, but in terms of comfort, it’s just as good, if not better. The seats are softer and feel more supportive. You don’t get ventilation, but there are USB ports, a storage tray behind the front passenger seat, and a V2L charging socket – something the Mahindra misses.</p><p>

<p>In terms of cabin fit and finish, both vehicles are evenly matched. Each features a generous use of soft-touch materials and high-quality plastic panels.</p><p>

<h2>Driving Experience, Performance &amp; Ride Quality Tested</h2>

<p>Our test cars were top-spec versions, so the XEV 9S naturally had the performance edge. As expected, the Mahindra is quicker in a straight line, though the acceleration isn’t as dramatic as the numbers suggest.</p><p>

    </p><p>It did 0–100km/h in 7 seconds flat (GPS-verified), but the power delivery is smooth and progressive – appropriate for its target audience.</p>

<p>Handling, however, is a mixed bag. The steering feels artificial in all modes. And even with its semi-adaptive suspension in the firmer ‘Race’ mode, the rear end still feels a bit floaty. It’s a decent handler, but not particularly engaging or confidence-inspiring when pushed, largely due to its weight and soft setup.</p><p>

<p>The Clavis, being lighter and lower, feels more car-like from behind the wheel. It’s not exciting, but it’s easy, predictable, and comfortable. Despite having roughly 100bhp less than the Mahindra, it was only 1 second slower to 100km/h, taking 8 seconds.</p>

<p>The steering is lifeless, though, and even in its sportiest setting, it doesn’t weigh up much. There’s noticeable body roll and some chassis flex in faster corners, but drive it sensibly – like a responsible family chauffeur – and it feels perfectly adequate.</p><p>

<p>One area of concern is braking from high speeds. The rear can feel a bit unsettled during emergency stops. The Mahindra, in comparison, feels more planted and confidence-inspiring under hard braking, even though both cars run disc brakes all around.</p>

<p>As for range, the XEV’s larger battery pack delivers a higher real-world figure. In our tests, it managed around 450-460km on a full charge in mixed driving conditions, compared to the Clavis EV’s 350–360km. If you do long-distance driving, the Mahindra will bring you more peace of mind.</p><p>

    </p><p>And in case you’re travelling for a few days, the Mahindra offers more space for your luggage, thanks to its large 150-litre capacity frunk (vs 25-litre in the Kia) on top of its boot space. That said, the Kia’s boot is slightly larger than the Mahindra’s.</p>

<h2>Features, ADAS &amp; In-Car Technology Compared</h2>

<p>The XEV 9S’ main USP is that it packs new technology and a bucketload of features as compared to the Clavis EV. Make no mistake, the Kia is decently kitted out, too – dual 12.3-inch screens, ventilated seats, Level 2 ADAS, and a lot more.</p><p>

<h2>Final Verdict: Which Three-Row Electric Family Car Wins?</h2>

<p>As it turns out, the Carens Clavis EV is the better of the two three-row electric family cars. If your top priority is space and comfort for all seven occupants, this is a no-brainer.</p><p>

<p>China is set to ban flush and hidden door handles on passenger cars from 1 January 2027, and this one has caught the attention of car fans worldwide. The rule comes from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and focuses on one simple point: doors must open even when everything else fails. Every car sold in China will need proper mechanical door handles that work from inside and outside without relying on electronics. Existing models will get time until 1 January 2029 to comply. With electric cars dominating new launches, this move shows how safety is starting to outweigh design trends. In cars with electric flush handles, both passengers and rescue teams struggled to gain access. Mechanical handles remove that risk and allow doors to be opened instantly. In emergency situations, seconds matter, and regulators want to avoid any barrier that delays exit or rescue.</p><p>Flush door handles became popular with modern EV design. Tesla played a big role in making them mainstream, and many Chinese electric cars adopted the same approach. While the setup looked clean and helped with airflow, problems surfaced when batteries failed or software froze. As EV numbers increased, these real-world issues became harder to ignore.</p><p>The ban will apply to both local and international brands selling cars in China. Carmakers must now use visible, hand-operated handles with enough space for easy use. Semi-hidden designs may still be allowed if they include a full mechanical backup. This change will affect upcoming launches and mid-life updates across several models.</p><p>In India, the situation is being closely watched. Flush door handles are already seen on cars from Mahindra and Tata Motors, especially in EVs and SUVs. Any similar move here would need safety data and industry discussions. There is no plan yet, but China’s decision could push the conversation forward.</p>

<p>Mahindra’s overall sales reached 1.04 lakh units, including exports, in January 2026,&nbsp;representing a 24% year-on-year rise. Of this, 63,510 SUVs and cars are sold domestically, marking a growth of 25% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the sales of commercial&nbsp;vehicles hit 27,656 sales domestically, a gain of 22%. For the year-to-date period ending January 2026, Mahindra’s domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 5.40 lakh units, a growth of 19% over 4.53 lakh&nbsp;units last year.</p><p>According to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, M&amp;M Ltd., 'Building on the strong momentum&nbsp;of last year's performance, we began the year on a strong note in January&nbsp;by achieving SUV sales of 63,510 units, a growth of 25%, and LCV&lt; 3.5T&nbsp;sales of 27,656 units, a growth of 22%. The total vehicle sales stand at 104,309 units, a 24% year-on-year growth. On 14th January, we opened bookings for XUV7XO and XEV 9S, clocking 93,689 bookings for a booking value of Rs 20,500 Crore&nbsp;- a record-breaking milestone in just 4 hours.'</p><h2>Mahindra January 2026 Commercial Vehicle Sales</h2><p>While the sales of LCVs (Light Commercial Vehicles) below 2 tons grew modestly by 13% month-on-month, their YTD sales slightly lagged last year. In contrast, the LCVs in the 2–3.5 ton range displayed strong momentum, with a 23% monthly&nbsp;increase and 17% year-to-date growth. Three-wheelers, including electric models,&nbsp;were the top performers, achieving 28% growth in both monthly and cumulative sales.</p><h2>Mahindra Export Performance in January</h2><p>The total exports of Mahindra last month stood at 3,577 units, showing a modest 5% increase compared to January 2025. The year-to-date was strong, with 33,638 units exported so far, a rise of 23% from 27,452 units exported in the same period last year.</p><h2>Key Highlights</h2><p>At the beginning of January, Mahindra launched the all-new XUV 7XO, a redesigned iteration of the XUV700, with prices starting at Rs 13.66 lakh (ex-showroom). Mahindra Clocks 25% Growth in January with 63,510 Units Sold

Mahindra sold 63,510 SUVs and cars in the domestic market in January 2026, marking a growth of 25% year-on-year. The sales of commercial vehicles reach 27,656 units domestically, a gain of 22%.

<p><em>We rode the much-awaited and highly anticipated Mahindra Mojo from Mumbai to Igatpuri, and returned grinning from ear to ear. Read on to find out why...</em></p>

<p>It’s been almost four years since I heard its name for the first time, and every time it was mentioned I couldn’t help but think of the Austin Powers movie, The Spy Who Shagged Me, where the source of Austin’s sex appeal, known as his Mojo, is stolen. Initially, I believed I would start this piece with the same reference, but realised later that it would dilute the seriousness of this bike. And so, in the end, I chose to use Jim Morrison’s help to say it better:</p>

<p>This pretty much sums up the Mahindra Mojo! The bike was showcased for the first time at the 2012 Auto Expo as a concept, but its design drew heavy flak. Mahindra went back home, asked its designers to do something about the way it looked, and came back two years later with the new design at the 2014 Auto Expo. The bike was far better received this time, but not with quite the enthusiasm that Mahindra anticipated. Mahindra again took the feedback, and improved the bike some more one final time.</p>

<p>My first glimpse of the production-ready Mojo was in September, while on my way from Leh to Nubra, when I spotted the bike being tested at Khardung La. The bike looked great with its dual headlamps and the 1-2 exhaust system. The 21-litre tank, the 300cc engine, radiator, grab rails, and the overall big-bike look did make it stand out – and I hoped secretly that Mahindra wouldn’t mess around with its looks anymore.</p>

<p>When Mahindra invited us to ride the Mojo from Mumbai to Igatpuri, I had mixed emotions. When I saw the bike at the briefing session – and I won’t lie here – it looked exceptionally good in its red and silver livery. And, as soon as I sat on the bike, whatever little hesitation I had was gone.</p>

<p>The bike is big, and the first impression you get is that it’s a naked, purposeful tourer with a comfortable seat and nice ergonomics. The riding stance allows you to think of all the possibilities of this machine. The stance is neither too aggressive nor too laidback, which allows you to choose a riding style depending on your mood. You can either duck and go mad with your right wrist, or just throw yourself back and enjoy the landscape as you cruise along the road.</p>

<p>The urban commuter, who also loves to ride to faraway places every now and then – to break away from the monotony of every-day life – is the ideal consumer of the Mahindra Mojo. You can play it rough on normal roads, by pushing the bike, but also cruise easy on the highways trying to reach a serene place somewhere in mountains.</p>

<p>The Mahindra Mojo rewards its riders in many ways – the USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear have a travel of 143mm and work like a dream, while the dual headlamp at the front light up your path ahead more than sufficiently. The ride quality is smooth and enjoyable, with no unwanted vibrations. Build quality of the bike is also very good. The braking system from Jjuan, which includes a 320mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear, has been tuned to perform progressively – and doesn’t disappoint. Not to forget the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres, which compliment the braking abilities of this machine, making it stop on a dime. The tyres perform exceptionally well on the tarmac. We wouldn’t necessarily expect a super sticky set of tyres to perform well off road, but they held up quite well. More importantly, though, when off-road, the suspension is simply brilliant. And while I would love to see the Mahindra Mojo equipped with ABS, considering the price of the bike, I think I can excuse it for time being.</p>

<p>The 295cc, liquid-cooled engine provides 26.82bhp of peak power and 30Nm of maximum torque. The peak torque is delivered at 5,500rpm, which means the mid-range performance of the Mahindra Mojo is very usable and fun. In any gear and at any rpm, just twist the throttle and the bike will reward you for sure. The engine runs very smooth and is quite refined. Another highlight of the bike is the exhaust system – not only does it look magnificent, but it also produces a nice deep rattling sound by multiplying the echo and hum of the single-cylinder.</p>

<p>After riding the bike for a little over 250-kilometres, and making full use of its high-speed cruising capabilities, we were very happy with the performance of the Mahindra Mojo. And considering its price tag, we really can’t find anything critical to point out. After all, at&nbsp;Rs.1.58 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) it’s a mouth-watering price for the package!</p>
