<h2>BMW i5 Electric: Powertrain, Exterior, Interior</h2>

<p>The all-electric BMW i5 comes equipped with improved fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. When launched, it will be available in two variants -&nbsp;M60 xDrive and eDrive40. Powering the all-wheel-drive&nbsp;M60 xDrive are two electric motors, one on each axle. Combined power and torque figures are rated at 593bhp and 820Nm, only when&nbsp;M Launch Control is engaged. All of this means that the&nbsp;i5 M60 can do the&nbsp;0 to 100km/h run&nbsp;in 3.8 seconds. However, it is limited to a top speed of&nbsp;230km/h. On the other hand, the electric motor in the rear-wheel-drive eDrive 40 delivers 335bhp and 430Nm, resulting in a claimed 0 to 100km/h acceleration time of 6 seconds and a top speed of 193km/h.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In terms of range, the M60 xDrive yields a claimed range of 455km to 516km (WLTP cycle), while the eDrive40 promises a range of 497km to 582km (WLTP). An 81.2kWh lithium-ion battery&nbsp;comes standard with both i5 variants. The BMW i5's combined charging unit enables AC charging with an&nbsp;output of up to 11kW as standard and&nbsp;up to 22kW as an option. With DC charging capability at 205kW, BMW claims a 10 to 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes.</p>

<p>The all-electric BMW i5, on the&nbsp;design front, gets a blanked-off kidney grille with illuminated surrounds, twin headlights with LED DRLs, blacked-out side skirts,&nbsp;flush-fit door handles, an M-specific diffuser at the rear, and flat LED tail lights separated&nbsp;by a chrome strip. The embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar is another highlight. All up, the i5 appears almost identical to the 7 series.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the inside, the i5 electric sedan is almost identical to the new i7. It features a panoramic sunroof, a wide ambient light bar running from the dashboard to door panels, and a boost button on the steering wheel&nbsp;giving the EV a jolt of power and speed. On the feature front, the electric car gets two free-standing displays - a&nbsp;12.3-inch digital instrument console and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, again identical to that of the i7.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the global line-up, the all-electric BMW i5&nbsp;joins the BMW iX1, the BMW i4, and the BMW i7. As also confirmed,&nbsp;a third i5 model will debut in 2024 alongside the BMW i5 eDrive40 and the M60 xDrive models.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>2024 BMW i5 Electric Sedan: Design</h2>

<p>The exterior of the 2024 BMW i5 will carry over certain design cues from the ICE-powered version. The e-sedan will have a tall, sculpted hood, Matrix LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights, an updated illuminated kidney grille, ORVMs, chromed window trim, flared wheel arches, and designer alloy wheels. A shark-fin antenna and LED taillights will decorate the back.</p>

<p>The updated BMW 5 Series will feature a&nbsp;Curved Display with the latest Operating System 8.5 and digital driver's display. It will be sporty in appearance.&nbsp;According to some reports, the 5 Series&nbsp;will be based on a flexible powertrain architecture. It could also get a plug-in hybrid&nbsp;alongwith petrol and diesel powertrains with 48V mild-hybrid technology.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As for the new BMW i5, its&nbsp;battery pack could be of&nbsp;the same size or bigger than the i4's 80.3kWh battery unit. The i5 could deliver&nbsp;a WLTP-claimed range north of 590 kilometre.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We also expect the new BMW 5 range and the&nbsp;i5 sedan to arrive in the Indian market around 2024. The i5 will join the BMW i7 and the i4 that are currently on sale in the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The new BMW 5 Series is expected to be priced higher than the outgoing 5 Series, which ranges between Rs 65.40 lakh and Rs 74.50 lakh in India. All prices are ex-showroom.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When launched, the latest 5 range will compete against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E Class, the Audi A6, and the Volvo&nbsp;S90. Like the iX1, we are building the iX2 in Germany, at our Regensburg plant. It will be launched towards the end of the year. E-mobility is a priority for us – and we measure ourselves against this. <p><strong><em>Though the 2021 5 Series is technically a facelift, the entire model&nbsp;range still gets a whole lot of new features as well as new variants.</em></strong></p>

<p>BMW's plans of debuting the 2021 5 Series facelift with a solid bang were sort of hindered after the official images of the 2021 530e were leaked a few days ago. <p>Visually, the 5 Series facelift has escaped from BMW's recent steroid&nbsp;treatment of the kidney grille. Though wider &amp; taller than before, the updated grille is still of an acceptable size. Other marked changes include revised front &amp; rear fascias as well as completely redesigned headlights &amp; taillights. The headlights look much sharper than before, courtesy of the L-shaped accents &amp; DRLs. The taillights, like the new 3-Series, are more defined now. All 5 Series derivatives will also come fitted with trapezoidal exhaust tips.</p>

<p>The 5 Series facelift sedan, starting July 2020, will be available in most European markets as the 530e/530e xDrive and the 545e xDrive (both are plug-in hybrid versions). Those looking for the petrol variants will have a choice of&nbsp;the 520i, 530i/530i xDrive, 540i/540i xDrive or the new range-topping flagship M550i xDrive derivative. Diesel enthusiasts can opt for the 520d/520d xDrive,&nbsp;530d/530d xDrive or the 540d xDrive.</p>

<p>As for the engine options, there are three petrol engines &amp; two diesel engines to choose from. A 2.0-litre (1,998cc) four-cylinder petrol unit that powers the 520i (181bhp &amp; 290Nm) &amp; 530i (248bhp &amp; 350Nm). A larger 3.0-litre (2,998cc) six-cylinder motor can&nbsp;be found in the 540i (329bhp &amp; 450Nm). The range-topping M550i gets the mammoth 4.4-litre (4,395cc) M TwinPower Turbo V8 that puts out 523bhp &amp; 750Nm.</p>

<p>Those interested in the diesel variants will have a choice between a 2.0-litre (1,995cc) four-cylinder motor in the 520d (188bhp &amp; 400Nm) or the 3.0-litre (2,993cc)&nbsp; six-cylinder unit in the 530d (282bhp &amp; 650Nm) or the 540d (335bhp &amp; 700Nm).</p>

<p>All five engines come paired to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission.</p>

<p>Coming to the changes inside the car, the 5 Series facelift gets&nbsp;BMW Operating System 7 as standard, that allows for greater connectivity features &amp; options, like Android Auto (alongside the existing Apple CarPlay connectivity option), WiFi and remote, Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates, etc. Infotainment touchscreen sizes range from either a 10.3-inch unit (standard) or a 12.3-inch optional unit. Also marking their debut on the 5 Series facelift are features like BMW Maps, BMW Drive Recorder (optional) &amp;&nbsp;Integral Active Steering (optional).</p>

<p>Expect the BMW 5 Series facelift to arrive in India sometime next year. The variant line-up is likely to remain unchanged.</p>

2021 BMW 5 Series facelift breaks cover

The 2021 BMW 5 Series facelift's global line-up gets a new plug-in hybrid model (545e) as well as a new V8-powered flagship version (M550i). The list of changes & revisions carried out for the entire range is quite extensive.
