In recent Latin NCAP safety tests, the Brazilian-spec Basalt scored less across&nbsp;multiple safety categories despite offering four airbags and ESC as standard. It achieved just 39.37% for Adult Occupant Protection, 58.35% for Child Occupant Safety, 53.38% in Pedestrian Protection, and 34.88% in Safety Assist.&nbsp;According to Latin NCAP’s crash tests, the model lacks key safety&nbsp;features such as side head airbags and ADAS, which aren’t even offered as add-ons.

The frontal crash revealed some serious structural issues, and the passenger’s seatbelt pretensioner failed to work properly, offering weak chest protection. When it comes to child safety, the testing agency disclosed that&nbsp;the dummy representing a three-year-old struck its head against the car’s interior,&nbsp;causing the head protection rating to drop to zero. Moreover,&nbsp;the airbag deactivation switch was also absent.&nbsp;On top of that, the seatbelt reminder only alerts the driver and does not meet Latin NCAP’s safety standards.

The India-spec Basalt's safety features include six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX mounts, hill hold control, and 3-point seat belts for all seats as standard.&nbsp;It incorporates high-strength materials like Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and Ultra High Strength&nbsp;Steel (UHSS) to effectively absorb impacts from the front and sides, minimising cabin intrusion and enhancing passenger safety. The tests included head-on (frontal) and side crash trials that are similar to real accidents. Citroen India will launch the Basalt X on 5 September as part of its plan to grow its presence in the Indian market. Bookings are already open, and buyers can secure the new coupe-SUV by paying a token amount of Rs 11,000. The Basalt X builds on the standard Basalt, much like the C3X did with the C3 hatchback. While the overall design and colour choices remain the same, a ‘Basalt X’ badge will be added to mark this variant. Practical additions such as a tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, and an engine start/stop button will further enhance its usability and safety on the road.Power will come from the familiar 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, the same as in the standard Basalt. This engine produces 108bhp and up to 205Nm of torque, depending on the transmission option. The carmaker has packed in 15 new additions, including several new features designed to boost safety, comfort, and convenience. Even the fully loaded Shine Turbo AT variant is priced at Rs 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom), keeping the entire range under the Rs 10 lakh mark, a sweet spot for urban buyers looking for a tech-laden SUV without breaking the bank.
