<p>The new Fiat Cronos is based on the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/fiat-argo-specifications-and-details-revealed/">Fiat Argo</a> hatchback, which the Italian company revealed earlier in 2017.</p>

<p>After <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/fiat-linea-successor-teased/">teasing it</a> not so long ago, Fiat has officially taken the wraps off the new Cronos saloon, the car which will replace the aging Linea in South American markets.</p>

<p>The edgy styling of the Cronos is a big departure from the smooth and rounded design elements found on the Linea. The front features sharply designed headlamps with eyebrow style LED DRLs. The aggressive looking bumper has a chrome applique running across it, while the foglamp housings are placed between the headlamps and the chin. At the rear, the Cronos gets stylish LED tail lamps, a black inset for the bumper, and bold a 'FIAT'&nbsp;badge&nbsp;without the proper insignia. Fiat hasn’t yet revealed the interiors of the Cronos.</p>

<p>In Brazil, the new Fiat Cronos will draw its power from a1.3-litre petrol engine with 108bhp, or 1.8-litre flex-fuel engine with 137bhp. In terms of transmission, either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic are offered.</p>

<p>Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) hasn’t revealed any plans to launch the Cronos in India as yet. However, the Linea is a decade old now, and is not doing any good to the company in terms of sales. In this case, we positively hope that the company sheds some light on its Fiat brand strategy, instead of just focusing on building the Jeep brand in India.</p>

<p>The upcoming mid-size saloon will be based on the recently launched <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/fiat-argo-images-officially-revealed/">Argo hatchback</a>, and is expected to be released by the end of 2017. The teaser is released in the form of a short video by Fiat Brazil. It gives a quick glimpse of the car’s bonnet creases and partially reveals its&nbsp;side profile. Form the video, it is clear that the Cronos looks nothing like the Linea it is set to replace, and follows a much sharper design language overall.</p>

<p>While no powertrain details of the Cronos are known as of now, it is expected to share the 1.3-litre Firefly petrol and 1.8-litre E.torQ flex-fuel engine options with the Argo, at least in Brazil.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/fiat-linea-review/">Fiat Linea</a> has been around globally since 2007, and was launched in India in 2009. The car’s performance&nbsp;in India has been pretty underwhelming, all thanks to the stiff competition in mid-size segment, and now also due to the car’s age. The Fiat brand’s future plans for India are quite unclear as of now, as its parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), is focusing on building the Jeep brand instead.</p>

<p>Therefore, do not expect the Cronos to come to India until FCA officially sheds some light on Fiat’s future Indian strategy. In the meantime, you can watch the teaser video below.</p>
