Ford Freestyle Highlights
The Ford Freestyle marks Ford’s entry into the risky crossover segment where many other brands have faltered in the past. However, the Freestyle is not just a crossover by virtue of its rugged looks but it has also been setup to act like one. It has also been launched with a new petrol motor which is likely to find its way into the Figo and Aspire soon. The Ford Freestyle price in India starts from ₹ 5.09 lakh (Ex-showroom, New Delhi) for the base Ambiente petrol variant and the prices of subsequent petrol variants are ₹ 6.09 lakh, ₹ 6.49 lakh and ₹ 7.04 lakh for Trend, Titanium and Titanium+, respectively.
The Freestyle boasts of several upgrades like blacked out headlights with smart looking C-shaped fog lamps housed in the muscular front bumper and ORVMs in contrasting black colour. To add to its rugged look, the sloping bonnet has prominent creases running down in the centre. Coming to the rear, the Freestyle keeps a clean design, though it could’ve done without the mock vents on the bumper. The Ford Freestyle ground clearance figure stands at 190mm (approx.). The tyres which come fitted to the Ford Freestyle are 185/60 R15s. The lower variants (Ambiente & Trend) get steel wheels instead of alloys.
The Ford Freestyle variants comprises Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. The top-spec Titanium+ version of the Ford Freestyle offers many convenience and safety features like SYNC 3 infotainment system with Voice Control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Emergency Assistance and Side + Curtain airbags. All variants of the Ford Freestyle are available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. All Ford Freestyle variants come fitted with ABS, EBD, front dual airbags, engine immobiliser and reverse parking sensors as standard.
The cabin of the Ford Freestyle features dual dark brown and black interior theme. The Freestyle comes with a 6.5-inch entertainment system powered by SYNC 3. The touchscreen is responsive and intuitive like a smartphone. Unfortunately, the Ford Freestyle new model ends up compromising in rear comfort and cabin space, as the rear bench is flat and there is hardly any thigh support. It also feels quite cramped in the back, and the C-pillars eat into the headroom. The front seats, on the other hand, are big and have a comfortable seat squab. They also provide decent lower back support.
Engine specifications & performance
The Freestyle is powered by Ford’s new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Dragon petrol motor which produces 94bhp and 120Nm of torque. The Freestyle diesel is powered by Ford’s familiar 1.5-litre engine, generating 98bhp and 215Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is the standard fitment across all variants of the Ford Freestyle. The performance-to-size ratio, for the Ford Freestyle on-road price is right on the money.
The Ford Freestyle has an ARAI-certified fuel-efficiency figure of 19 km/l for the petrol variants and 24.4 km/l for the diesel variants.
