Jeep Grand Cherokee Signature Edition Launched in India at Rs 69.04 Lakh

<p>The time has come. The Jeep Grand Cherokee must return home after spending three months with us. Ever since I got the keys to this hulking SUV, I’ve been absolutely smitten. To be honest, it’s been a journey of highs and lows, but one that I’ll always remember. Let’s start with the highs, and perhaps the Grand Cherokee’s biggest strength – its road presence. Wherever it goes, it commands attention. Some wonder why the Compass / Meridian look has been dialled up to 11, while others stare in shock and awe. Side note: while not everyone turns back to look at this massive white SUV, it certainly attracts the attention of Fortuner, Scorpio, and Thar owners!</p>
<p> Another highlight is the ride quality. The Grand Cherokee effortlessly handles road undulations and potholes, remaining unfazed by bad surfaces, even at highway speeds. However, over large speed bumps, this softly sprung, colossal SUV makes its size and weight felt.</p>
<p>Being a Jeep, it naturally excels in off-roading. With multiple drive modes, the 4x4 system gives you the confidence to take it anywhere. For me, though, most of my time with it was spent on city roads, with a bit of highway driving thrown in – the very conditions where a car like this spends most of its time. And in that context, one notable point is fuel efficiency. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t shy away from sipping fuel by the bucket, averaging about 6 km/l during our time with the car.</p>
<p>Where the lows emerge, however, is in the fit and finish. For a price tag of `67.50 lakh (ex-showroom), it competes with the Germans, who, in terms of price-to-luxury ratio, seem to offer a better deal. The most surprising issue came during heavy rains – which only occurred in the final days of our review – when the Jeep started leaking water into the cabin. This is simply unacceptable. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt since it was a press car, used far more intensively than a customer vehicle would be, but it was still shocking.</p>
<p>To sum it up, the Grand Cherokee may have left a bitter taste in its final days, but I’ll remember it for the sweet memories we made along the way. In terms of car-to-price ratio – a metric that resonates with many Indian customers – the Jeep Grand Cherokee hits the sweet spot. It’s a gentle giant, capable of impressive energy and capabilities when called upon, yet it prefers to stay calm and composed, blending in with the crowd. Jeep Grand Cherokee Long Term Review, May 2025 Report

To sum it up, the Jeep Grand Cherokee may have left a bitter taste in its final days, but I’ll remember it for the sweet memories we made along the way.

<p>‘Oh my word, what in the world is that?!’ Has been the theme of the month for me. You see, our Founder and Editor-in-chief Dhruv Behl was kind enough to let me borrow the Jeep Grand Cherokee from our long-term test fleet for the last month. And ever since, even after over 700km clocked with the Jeeper, I still cannot get over the incredible presence this monolithic SUV has. In many ways, especially since we are a lot more used to seeing the Jeep Compass and the Jeep Meridian on the roads, the Grand Cherokee manages to go under the radar. But as it comes close, be it in your peripheral vision or your rear view mirror, it dawns upon people - this isn’t just any other Jeep, it is the ‘Grand’ daddy of them all! </p>
<p>Incredibly, though, the same surprises me even after all this time spent with the car. Just the other day, I went to the local market to buy some groceries. I parked the car without a second thought, actively remembering the list of items that I need to purchase - a tough task, seriously - and went on about my day. It was only while returning back to the car that I saw it towering over pretty much every single car that was parked alongside it! You would think that I would get used to this sight but no, the jaw keeps dropping every now and then.</p>
<p>It’s been the same even inside the car. Just the other day, I realised that the car has these incredible touches that show the attention to detail that Jeep has put into this SUV. And this is precisely why spending longer times with cars is necessary, because in any other scenario where we test it for a short duration, we have to go about making 3,400 gazillion kinds of content about the test car - and between it all, such things are easy to miss. For example, the car’s belt buckle is wrapped in this lovely soft touch material. Or how the fact that the rear camera feed which be seen on the inside rear view mirror helps you incredibly in case you happen to load the boot up to the top. I also loved the sheer amount of buttons on the centre console that giving you easy access to a lot of features even on the go, despite the car having three massive screens across the dash for an infotainment experience that’s no less than any luxury car. </p>
<p>All of it really makes you appreciate the effort that Jeep has put into the Grand Cherokee. Jeep Grand Cherokee Long Term Review, April 2025 Report

Just the other day, I realised that the car has these incredible touches that show the attention to detail that Jeep has put into this SUV.

<p>When you think Jeep, undoubtedly you picture the Wrangler – with its rugged go-anywhere appeal. But what if you wanted to retain a majority of that off-road ability but in a much more civilised everyday package. Then you need to think ‘Grand Cherokee.’ In fact, since its introduction in the US in the early 90s, it’s developed a legacy all its own. This fifth generation Grand Cherokee is the first one to make it to our shores, but it’s safe to say that it hasn’t exactly made much of a dent in the market. So, we thought we’d spend a couple of months with it to find out why. </p>
<p>The first thing that strikes you is its clean, typically Jeep, design – with that signature seven slat grille and squared off wheel arches. It’s a really good-looking machine, although there isn’t much to differentiate it from its smaller sibling, the Meridian, which is possibly one of the reasons why you don’t see (or notice) too many on our roads. The second thing that strikes you is its rather punchy 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with 268 horses mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels. Surprisingly, the drivetrain is brilliant, and at 7.4km/l even the fuel economy isn’t as bad as I was expecting. </p>
<p>But there are a few shortcomings. The cabin feels cheap in places, especially the faux leather. The low-speed ride is busier than it ought to be, and the steering is heavier than it should be. Plus, in some cases the cost cutting is perceptible, such as the Alpine sound system, which sounds cheap and tinny. </p>
<p>At just short of 80 lakhs on-road, what you get is an SUV that offers real go-anywhere ability, looks and feels imposing, but at the same time struggles to justify its price tag.
