Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The Suzuki Jimny (earlier sold as the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy in India) is a car that needs no introduction. It is a car that has remained in production for more than four decades, making space for itself among the longest running nameplates like the Volkswagen Beetle and the Land Rover Defender. The Japanese carmaker is expected to bring in the fourth-generation Jimny later this year.
Fans of the car have been eagerly looking forward to the new Jimny. Sticking to its roots, this new-generation model continues to be based on a ladder frame and comes with a 4x4 system. The Jimny will be under 4m in length, which means it will make the most of the subsidies that sub-4m cars get. This can, in fact, make it the most affordable 4x4 SUV on sale in India (all other sub-4m SUVs are front-wheel drive).
Aside from the new design, the interiors are also improved. As of now, it comes with a rather modern interior with all the necessary features. The new-generation model is also better in terms of quality as well as features. While there is no official news of the engine it will come fitted with, we expect it to be offered with the same motor that works force on the Ciaz, Ertiga, and Vitara Brezza – the 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine. Gearbox options should include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter automatic.
Maruti Suzuki is currently evaluating the Jimny for an India launch. While the three-door version is expected to hit the market later this year, a five-door version is also on the cards. Upon launch, it will rival the Mahindra Thar.
