Maruti Suzuki has strengthened its position as India’s leading vehicle exporter, closing FY2025-26 with exports of 4.48 lakh vehicles. That is a 34.5 per cent rise from 3.33 lakh units in the previous year. More than the numbers, this marks the fifth straight year Maruti Suzuki has led India’s passenger vehicle export market. Nearly one out of every two cars exported from India now comes from Maruti Suzuki, showing how much its global presence has grown.

A major driver behind this growth is the e Vitara. Since production began at the Hansalpur plant in August 2025, Maruti Suzuki’s electric SUV has changed the company’s export strategy. Instead of relying mainly on petrol hatchbacks and compact SUVs, Maruti is now expanding into the electric SUV segment across 44 international markets, up from 29 a year earlier.

This move into EVs serves two purposes. It helps Maruti stay aligned with global demand as more markets shift toward electric vehicles, while also strengthening India’s role in Suzuki’s global manufacturing network.
In India, Maruti Suzuki’s growth remained strong. The company posted its highest-ever annual sales at 24.22 lakh units, up from 22.34 lakh units in FY2024-25. The January to March quarter played a major role, with total sales reaching 6.76 lakh units, an 11.8 per cent year-on-year increase. That quarter also included a record export total of 1.37 lakh units.

These numbers show Maruti Suzuki is growing beyond its role as India’s biggest carmaker. With a larger EV line-up and expanding international reach, the company is playing a bigger role in strengthening India’s automotive presence worldwide.
