    For years, the D-segment SUV market in India has essentially been a one-horse race. You know the name, you know its resale value, and you certainly know its bouncy ride quality. But MG is now attempting to shift the goalposts with the all-new Majestor. But in a world of mall-crawlers, just a pretty face and massive Matrix grille don’t get you up a mountain.</p>

<p>So, we went to the proving grounds to see if the all-new Majestor is just a luxury cruiser with an identity crisis or a genuine off-road weapon. Under the hood is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine making 215bhp and a healthy 478Nm of torque. It’s a lot of muscle on paper, but can it hide its massive 5-metre footprint when the tarmac ends?</p>

<h2>MG Majestor Off-Road Test: High-Speed Braking and Suspension Check</h2>

<p>Before we hit the deep ruts, we started with a high-speed brake test on loose gravel. At 60km/h, slamming on the anchors is usually a recipe for a sideways slide, but the Majestor’s electronics kept it tracking straight and true. It is a seemingly mundane test until you actually need it on a monsoon-soaked highway.</p><p>

    </p><p>Then came the rutted stairs. This isn’t just about the 219mm ground clearance; it is a torture test for the damping. With a double-wishbone independent setup up front and a five-link rear, you could see the body working hard from the outside, but inside, the cabin remained impressively composed.</p>







<h2>MG Majestor Off-Road Capability: Water Wading, Diff Locks and Crawl Control</h2>

<p>Then things got wet. The Majestor is rated for 810mm of water wading – the highest in its segment. To further bolster its off-road credentials, MG has equipped the vehicle with three differential locks: front, rear, and centre.</p><p>

    </p><p>With 4-low and the front and rear diff-locks engaged, we dropped into the pit. The twin-turbo motor kept purring along, and off-road tech did its bit to ensure we didn’t get bogged down.</p>

<p>Before tackling the next major obstacle, the Majestor faced a tight slalom course to showcase its handling prowess. It was impressive for an SUV that weighs over 2.5 tonnes and stretches 5m in length.</p><p>But the real magic happened at the 35-degree incline. MG has introduced what they call ‘M-Crawl’ or Crawl Control Operation (CCO). We literally took our feet off the pedals and let the machine manage the throttle and braking for every individual wheel. It was an eerie sensation, but the system worked flawlessly. While coming down a 42-degree descent into a ditch, the Hill Descent Control kept progress measured and manageable without locking a single wheel.</p>







<h2>MG Majestor Suspension and Off-Road Performance Test</h2>

<p>The standout moment, however, came while tackling the ‘Devil’s Hump.’ This obstacle tests suspension damping, body control, and low-end throttle response all at once. In this specific regard, the Majestor managed to impress even more than the Fortuner. It controls its body movements with a level of sophistication we aren’t used to in this segment, softening hard landings and using that low-end grunt for seamless, controlled movements.</p><p>

    </p><p>With triple-differential locks and 10 off-road modes (including a dedicated Mud mode), the capability of a vehicle this size is impressive. And our final test was a boggy mud section. We switched off the front and centre diff-locks for maximum manoeuvrability and maximum steering angle, while engaging the dedicated Mud mode. This was enough to help the MG Majestor practically sail through.</p>





<h2>MG Majestor First Look Verdict: A Real Toyota Fortuner Rival?</h2>

<p>So, is the Fortuner’s crown in danger? I think that the Majestor is a sophisticated tool – smart, comfortable, and capable. However, we weren’t the ones driving today; we were experiencing it from the passenger seat.</p><p>

<p><br></p><p>Inside, the dashboard is expected to feature a 14-inch portrait touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Illuminated steering controls, dual-tone leatherette seats and ambient lighting across the doors and footwells add to the experience. A digital instrument cluster displays key information, while multi-zone climate control can be operated via gestures. </p><p>Features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and connected car functions round out the technology suite.</p>
<p>Engine options are expected to remain unchanged. The current 1.5-litre turbo-petrol produces 141bhp and 250Nm, while the 2.0-litre diesel delivers 167bhp and 350Nm, available with manual or CVT transmissions depending on the variant.</p>

MG Hector Facelift India Launch on December 15

The updated MG Hector facelift brings new exterior design, revised interior tech and added features while continuing as a mid-size SUV on the current platform.

<p>JSW MG Motor India has released the first teaser for what is expected to be the 2026 <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/mg-hector-facelift-exterior-design-teased-ahead-of-india-launch-122405/">MG Hector facelift</a>, giving an early hint of the SUV’s updated profile. The teaser suggests that the Hector could return with a set of revisions, marking what may become the first major update under the JSW Group’s leadership. The Hector, which has been in production at the Halol plant in Gujarat since 2019, continues to be MG’s top-selling SUV in India. Test units believed to be the facelifted model have been spotted near Pune under camouflage. These sightings indicate that the overall silhouette may remain close to the current model, with suspension and aerodynamic improvements during highway testing.</p>

These changes may align the Hector with design cues seen on <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/">MG’s</a> newer global models.</p>

The tail-light clusters and connecting light bar seem likely to continue as they are. In the teaser, the side profile remains familiar, though the introduction of new alloy wheels in a darker finish appears probable. </p>
<p>The timing of the update comes as the Hector competes in a segment dominated by the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/creta/">Hyundai Creta</a>, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/kia/seltos/">Kia Seltos</a>, and<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/harrier/"> Tata Harrier</a>. While the original Hector posted strong early numbers with more than 50,000 units in its first year, MG may use this facelift to re-energise interest. It is also offered in a new top-spec variant, the Windsor Pro, featuring a larger 52.9kWh battery, which was not available at the time&nbsp;of launch. </p><p>The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/windsor-ev/">Windsor EV </a>is offered in multiple trims with flexible pricing options, including the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan.&nbsp;The base Excite variant costs Rs 10 lakh plus Rs 3.9 per km with BaaS, or Rs 14 lakh without it. Meanwhile, the Essence Pro is available at Rs 13.39 lakh plus Rs 4.5 per km with BaaS, and Rs 18.39 lakh without the plan.</p><h2><strong>MG Windsor EV: Powertrain</strong></h2><p>The standard Windsor EV comes with a 38kWh battery, and a range of 332 kilometres (MIDC Part 1+2). Still, every input evokes an immediate response and is cleanly executed. The Cyberster doesn’t just look fast – it is fast. <p>Slip into the driver’s seat, and you’re greeted by a chunky flat-bottomed steering wheel and a striking three-screen cockpit that’s futuristic and driver-focused. The cabin exudes a sense of quality – from the materials used inside to the overall fit and finish, everything feels premium and oozes quality. With the fabric roof up, insulation levels are impressive, muting most of the outside noise. <p>On the track, the Cyberster seems to be in its element – sharp, agile, and immensely engaging. However, step off the circuit and onto less-than-perfect Indian roads, and some of its compromises become apparent. The low ground clearance, sharply sculpted nose, and firm suspension setup don’t exactly make it ideal for everyday driving. Given the country’s hot weather, that roof will likely stay up most of the time. But then, the Cyberster was never meant to be a practical, all-season companion. Its purpose is clear – to turn heads, to make you feel something every time you see it, and to deliver electrifying on-track performance on demand. As India’s only all-electric drop-top convertible, it does precisely that with conviction, charisma, and just the right amount of madness.
