MG Hector Plus Highlights
Having showcased it at the Auto Expo 2020, Morris Garages has now officially launched the Plus-sized derivative of its popular SUV Hector, touting it as the Hector Plus. As its name suggests, the Hector Plus shares its underpinnings with its smaller sibling.
Unlike the Hector, however, the Hector Plus gets a 3-row seating layout, with captain seats in the middle row. Therefore, the maker is positioning the Hector Plus as an option for the chauffeur-driven. The third row, in MG’s speak, is intended ‘for teenagers'. Moreover, with great MG Hector Plus pricing, it’s easily one of the most value-for-money 3-row SUVs in the country.
The MG Hector Plus new model shares most of its styling cues with the 5-seat Hector. The manufacturer has, however, made some minor changes such as reprofiled front and rear bumpers, revamped headlamp housing, and a new mesh grille. To accommodate the three-row layout, the Hector Plus is also marginally longer than the standard Hector.
The MG Hector Plus variants are as follows: Style, Super, Smart, and Sharp. The top-spec Sharp variant of the Hector Plus gets the same equipment as the Hector’s Sharp variant. The sole difference in the equipment list is the inclusion of a hands-free opening function for the tailgate.
Do not let the aggressively-set MG Hector on-road price fool you as it gets a lot of goodies and a plush interior. MG has made use of soft-touch plastics on the dashboard for the most part. Talking about the dashboard, the overall layout remains unchanged from its smaller sibling. However, to distinguish between both models, the Hector Plus tan brown leatherette upholstery, as opposed to Hector’s dull black upholstery. And, of course, the Plus-sized Hector gets a 3-row seating layout.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The engine options, too, remain the same as the Hector. Therefore, the Hector Plus comes powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine – good for 141bhp and 250Nm of torque – and a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which makes 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre petrol engine also gets smart-hybrid technology, which is only available in higher trims paired with a 6-speed manual. Buyers opting for the petrol (non-hybrid) can also choose a DCT automatic. The diesel engine, on the other hand, only comes mated to a 6-speed manual.
