Tata Safari Highlights
For 2021, Tata Motors has brought back its legendary Safari in an all-new avatar. This time around, however, the Safari is no longer the hardcore off-road vehicle with a ladder frame chassis. Instead, it’s essentially a three-row version of the smaller Harrier, which means it’s built around a monocoque frame, and – at the time of launch – comes with a front-wheel-drive layout. So, it might not be the legendary SUV it used to be, but the Tata Safari price suggests that it’s certainly ready to shake up the segment.
Exterior
The 2021 Tata Safari new model has the same design cues as the smaller Harrier. The front-end is virtually identical, with the only differentiating factor being a chrome-filled tri-arrow pattern for the grille. In profile, the Safari gets larger wheels – 18-inches – and there are a couple of differences from C-pillar onwards. It now gets a full-size quarter glass, a longer rear overhang, and chunky roof rails with Safari branding at the end designed to suggest a stepped roof.
Variants
The Tata Safari variants are as follows: XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ, XZ+, and Adventure Edition. Features on the top-spec trim include a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, xenon HID headlights, an electronic parking brake, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with iRA connected car technology, a 9-speaker JBL audio system, and a 7.0-inch MID for the instrument cluster.
Interior
What you do get for the extra Tata Safari on-road price over the Harrier is a roomier cabin with three rows of seats. Consumers can choose between either a 6-seat layout or a 7-seat layout, with the former getting captain seats in the middle row as opposed to a bench seat on the latter. The design of the dashboard is identical to that of its smaller sibling, with the only difference being the colour of the lower part of the dashboard and seats, now featuring a black-and-beige theme.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The 2021 Tata Safari comes powered by the same engine as the Harrier. Therefore, powering the Safari is a sole 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, good for 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. Gearbox options remain the same too – a 6-speed manual is standard and a 6-speed torque converter automatic remains to be an option.
