Toyota Urban Cruiser Highlights
After the Glanza, the Urban Cruiser comes along as the second product in the Maruti Suzuki and Toyota’s joint venture. Therefore, the Urban Cruiser is a sub-4m compact SUV, which takes its inspiration from the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. It marks Toyota’s entry into the fierce sub-4m compact SUV space.
This also means the Toyota Urban Cruiser price and equipment is quite identical to the Vitara Brezza, which, itself, received a mid-cycle update earlier in 2020. However, Toyota has made a few over-the-top changes to the Urban Cruiser to differentiate it from its cousin. Read on to find out.
As opposed to the Vitara Brezza, the Toyota Urban Cruiser new model gets a revised front-end, replete with an all-new Fortuner-inspired front bumper and a new grille. It certainly gives it more character and a distinctive face. The headlamp and fog lamp units, however, remain the same, which means the Urban Cruiser, too, gets a full-LED setup at the front with dual projector headlamps and LED DRLs that also double up as side indicators. The rest of the design, sadly, remains the same as its cousin.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser variants are as follows: Mid Grade, High Grade, and Premium Grade. Even the lower-end variants of Toyota’s compact SUV are decently kitted. However, if you cannot compromise on the equipment levels, picking the Premium Grade trim – with the highest Toyota Urban Cruiser on-road price, that is – will get you a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple Carplay/Android Auto support, cruise control, auto fold wing mirrors, diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheels, auto headlamps, and so on.
Apart from the Toyota badging, there’s hardly anything new with the Urban Cruiser’s dashboard. It still gets an all-black layout with the same 7.0-inch touchscreen, which takes the centre stage, followed by the climate control unit, and a familiar gear lever. Toyota has, however, revised the upholstery, so the seats are now finished in chocolate brown, as opposed to the Brezza’s all-black seats.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Toyota Urban Cruiser is a petrol-only model. It gets Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, which is good for 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. It is, of course, compliant with the stringent BS-VI emission standards. The engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque converter unit. The automatic variants also get a mild-hybrid setup.
