Toyota Yaris User Reviews
Smooth, refined but not so economical
As I use a driver for my commute, the Yaris seemed like a good option for me based on the reviews. However, when I drive the car on weekends, I realised that the fuel economy is quite low. With best efforts, I managed to get 10km/l. Otherwise, the
figure goes as low as 6 km/l!
Toyota Yaris Highlights
The Toyota Yaris is built on the common ‘B platform’ which is used on other global Toyota models as well. This third-generation model was first launched in 2013 in the international markets and received a major facelift in 2017. India has received the updated version of the Yaris. The Yaris is smaller than its rivals in length and has the shortest wheelbase. However, at 1,120kg, it is heavier than all its rivals except the Verna. The Toyota Yaris price in India starts from ₹ 8.75 lakh (Ex-showroom, New Delhi) for the base J (MT) petrol variant and the prices of subsequent petrol variants are ₹ 10.56 lakh, ₹ 11.70 lakh and ₹ 12.85 lakh for G (MT), V (MT) and VX (MT) respectively.
With the Toyota Yaris, the designers have taken a more safe and conventional approach. While it does not qualify as stylish or handsome, the design is best described as functional. The Yaris, however, does get quite a few distinct design elements, like large headlamps and a huge trapezoidal front air dam that dominates the front. The Toyota Yaris ground clearance figure stands at 133mm (approx.). The tyres which come fitted to the Toyota Yaris are 185/60 R15s. The lower variants (J & G) get steel wheels instead of alloys.
The Toyota Yaris comes in four variants, namely, J, G, V and VX. The top-spec VX version of the Toyota Yaris offers many convenience and safety features like Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control, disc brakes on all four wheels and Hill Launch Assist. All variants of the Toyota Yaris are available with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed CVT automatic gearbox. All Toyota Yaris variants come fitted with ABS, EBD, seven SRS airbags and an engine immobiliser as standard.
The interior design of the Toyota Yaris features a beige theme and an asymmetrical dashboard with matte silver highlights. However, there are no soft-touch plastics to mention and the plastics used feel a bit hard, shiny and scratchy. There is also some artificial stitching on the dash and steering to make them look like they are leather-wrapped.
Engine specifications & performance
The Yaris is propelled by Toyota’s 2NR FE, four-cylinder dual VVT-i petrol engine which produces around 106bhp and 140Nm of torque. It is the same engine used in the Etios. Despite a decent power output, the motor does not like to be hurried and the weak mid-range translates to a flat power delivery. A 6-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT automatic gearbox is the standard fitment across all variants of the Toyota Yaris.
The Toyota Yaris has an ARAI-certified fuel-efficiency figure of 17.1 km/l for the manual option and 17.8 km/l for the CVT.
