Two higher-output engines&nbsp;– rated at 94bhp and 114bhp&nbsp;– can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic gearbox.</p>

<p>The Volkswagen Polo is nearing the end of its decade-long production in India, and to give it a fitting send-off, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/volkswagen/" target="_blank">Volkswagen</a> India has launched a limited-edition Legend variant of the hatchback. It’s priced the same as the regular car but gets some cosmetic updates.</p>

<p>Volkswagen has put Legend badges on the fenders and the boot lid, which immediately tells you that this is the limited-edition <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/volkswagen/polo/">Polo</a>. They have also given it a blacked-out roof, a black spoiler, and graphics on the side of the body. Apart from these, however, nothing else has changed.</p>

<p>The engine underneath the bonnet is the 1.0 TSI, which makes 109bhp and 175Nm. While that is good news, certain purists might feel unsatisfied by the fact that the Polo Legend is only available with the 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. We have driven it before, and it’s an excellent transmission with snappy shifts and virtually no lag, but a manual would have elevated&nbsp;the driving experience because of more driver involvement.</p>

<p>The Polo Legend is based on the GT TSI variant of the hatchback, which means that it gets all the bells and whistles. You get a touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, and more. Volkswagen is not charging a premium for the Legend variant, and it is available at the same Rs 10.25 lakh (ex-showroom) as the regular GT TSI. It is, however, a limited-edition variant, so it will be available only till stocks last. Volkswagen has not revealed exactly how many of these ‘limited-edition’ Polos will be built.</p>

<p>While this is the last of the Polo as we know it, there have been hints from the VW team in India about the return of the Polo. If and when it happens, it will be the new generation of the hatchback that is available in Europe, but for now, it's a long shot.</p>

Volkswagen has launched the Polo Legend, a limited-edition version of the hatchback that is based on its top-spec GT TSI variant. It’s a fitting tribute to a hatchback that for a decade has quenched the thirst of enthusiast-drivers-on-a-budget.

<p>The Volkswagen Polo, which is the most affordable product in the German carmaker’s portfolio, will soon be discontinued. The Polo is based on the PQ24 platform – VW’s PQ25 platform underpins the Vento and the Rapid. The hatchback went on sale in the first half of 2010. Back then, the Polo was offered with petrol and diesel engines. A few months after the Polo’s debut, Volkswagen brought in the Polo GT but not the GT TSI. The Polo GT, which debuted in 2010, had the Vento’s 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.</p>

<p>After a few years into the product’s life cycle, the GT badge was extended to the diesel model as well. In 2013, the Volkswagen Polo GT TDI was introduced, which featured the 1.6-litre turbo-diesel unit of the Vento diesel. At the same time, the Polo GT TSI made its first appearance. The GT TSI was equipped with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which was mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG) – they were the most advanced engine and gearbox transmission of the time. The GT TSI with the DSG transmission was offered for a long time.</p>

<p>In 2016, Volkswagen introduced the GTI; however, the firm smartly avoided the use of the Polo name. The three-door lifestyle hatchback was powered by a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol and a seven-speed DSG. The sticker price of the GTI was above Rs 20 lakh, therefore Volkswagen did not use the Polo nametag and reserved it for the family hatchback.</p>

<p>In 2020, just before the BS6 norms were regulated, Volkswagen launched the updated Polo, which had a downsized engine, with increased power output. For the first time, the Polo featured&nbsp;a six-speed torque convertor automatic as well. The same car is currently on sale now but until the stock&nbsp;last.</p>

<p>For now, Volkswagen is focusing on the Virtus, which is indeed a replacement for the Vento. The firm has not made an official statement regarding a replacement for the Polo; however, we can expect a new hatchback based on the same MQB-A0-IN platform sometime in the future.</p>
