<p>Polestar - the performance arm of the Swedish car-maker Volvo, had recently announced to transform into an all electric performance car brand very soon. But that’s up for the future, and while they’re still in the internal combustion engine game, they won’t stop pumping extra muscle into your everyday Volvos.</p>

<p>The latest generation XC60 SUV, which was internationally unveiled only recently, has now received a ‘Polestar Powertrain Optimization’. No, this isn’t a hardcore sports version of the XC60 with bold body work and sports tuned suspension. However, Polestar has fiddled with what matters the most - the engine.</p>

<p>The top-spec T8 petrol-hybrid version of the new Volvo XC60, will produce 421bhp after the Polestar treatment - 21bhp more than the standard car. This would make it one of the most powerful Volvos ever made. The Polestar optimisation improves five key areas of the powertrain while retaining the Volvo warranty, class-leading emission levels, consumption of 2.1 l/100 km and a pure electric range of 45 kilometres for the T8 XC60.</p>

<p>As per <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/volvo/">Volvo</a>, the enhancements for the engine are made to provide greater power and torque in the mid-range of the engine, the area most often used in everyday-driving, for example when joining a highway, overtaking or exiting a corner. The gearbox shifts faster, gearshift points have been calibrated to utilise the optimised mid-range engine performance, and the gear-hold function maintains the same gear when cornering with high lateral g-force in order to avoid unsettling the balance of the car.</p>

<p>A total of five XC60 engine configurations are eligible for the Polestar optimisation treatment - T8, T6, T5, and even the diesels - D5 and D4. The power enhancement will vary engine to engine - with the 421bhp treatment reserved only for the aforementioned T8 version.</p>

Last month, the Swedish car maker introduced their Polestar performance brand with the S60 Polestar, a few months from now, we can expect the launch of the V90 Cross Country. And it doesn’t end there. The company now tells us that the new XC60 will also make its way to India towards the end of the year.</p>

<p>Volvo bringing in the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/volvo/xc60/">XC60</a> doesn’t quite come as a surprise, but it is the engine option that it will come with that really amazes us. Volvo is expected to launch the XC60 with the most powerful 2.0-litre D5 diesel under the hood. This engine is a twin-turbocharged unit that churns out 232bhp of peak power and 480Nm of max torque. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, Volvo claims that this XC60 can do the 0-100km/h dash in just 7.2 seconds and record a top speed of 220km/h. The XC60 comes with all-wheel drive as standard.</p>

<p>In the international market, Volvo also has a less powerful D4 diesel that is good for 188bhp and 400Nm as well as a T6 petrol that makes 315bhp and 400Nm. Both these engine options too might make their way to India at a later stage.</p>

<p>Like all other Volvos, the XC60 too will come loaded to the gills with features. Air suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, Bowers and Wilkins audio system, leather upholstery, heads up display and more. Just like the S90 and the XC90, the XC60 will also come with the tablet-like infotainment system. The main attraction on the feature list, however, will be the radar-based safety systems same as the XC90.</p>

<p>Just a few weeks back, Volvo has confirmed that they will now be assembling cars locally at its facility in Bangaluru. That being said, we are still to get some more information about what cars will be assembled there. When the Volvo XC60 gets launched in India later this year, expect it to be priced around the Rs 55 lakh range.</p>
