2022 Husqvarna Svartpilen spied

The 401 Husqvarna Svartpilen and the Vitpilen are likely to see a major upgrade. Spy pictures confirm that the 2022 Svartpilen 401 will feature new cycle parts and, most likely, a new chassis.

Husqvarna is developing an all-new Vitpilen 401. Until now, the Svartpilen and Vitpilen Huskies were heavily based on the KTMs, but this time, the spy pictures of the prototype tell us a different story.

The prototype of the 2022 Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 appears quite distinct from that of the KTM 390 Duke. For starters, the engine cover is new, which makes us wonder if Husqvarna has developed its own new mid-capacity engine and will no longer borrow KTM 373cc single-cylinder motor anymore? It is too soon to confirm that, but the chassis which houses the engine is very different in appearance from that of KTM’s steel trellis frame. The motorcycle sports a split sub-frame unit, but the design is not as aggressive as that of the Duke.

The prototype also showcases an off-set mono-shock, which is mounted on a newly designed swing arm. The front brake assembly has been switched to the right side of the wheel from the left, which hints that the new motorcycle could have new braking hardware. The changed location of suspension mounts and brakes suggests that the new Svartpilen will be based on a new platform, which will be extended to the new Vitpilen 401 as well.

Husqvarna has had its presence in India since early 2020. It was sheer bad luck that the pandemic hit the world at the same time, the effects of which can still be seen in the automotive sector. However, it is about time that Husqvarna India pulls up its socks and introduce a few more models and strengthen its portfolio, which is exactly what the brand seems to be doing, starting with the 401s and then gradually moving to a more premium segment.
