After the new MT-09, Yamaha has now revealed the upgraded higher-spec SP variant of the bike. Called the Yamaha MT-09 SP, the motorcycle incorporates a host of modifications for the global market, encompassing hardware, performance, and styling. Aesthetically, the top-spec version of the MT-09 sports a bold and revolutionary design with a blue-and-silver finish. It is still powered by the 890cc crossplane triple CP3 engine of the street naked bike, but it now complies with Euro 5 emission standards, without any compromises in terms of performance. While it’s not clear, currently, if the company intends to introduce the MT 09 SP to the Indian market, rumours suggest that it might. For now, let's take a closer look at other details of this updated Yamaha MT-09 SP.

The higher-spec SP variant features an improved fuel tank, split-seating arrangement, and other features similar to those of the base MT-09. The suspension setup of the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP edition includes a fully adjustable 41mm KYB front fork coated in DLC and a completely adjustable Ohlins mono-shock with a remote preload adjustment. For braking, the bike has Brembo Stylema mono-block callipers at the front, along with a Brembo radial master cylinder. The setup also includes two 298mm brake discs. The rear of the bike gets a single 245mm brake disc and calliper configuration. Both ends of the bike get ABS as standard.

The redesigned motorcycle comes with Yamaha Ride Control settings – a unique feature, which allows riders to customise engine power and electronic rider aid intervention levels to their liking. Further, there is a switchable rear ABS. The new motorbike also comes equipped with Yamaha's Smart Key system, making the bike the first MT version to have this feature. Riders may conveniently start the engine, as well as, lock/unlock the fuel cap using an electronic key fob.
2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP: Engine
The higher-spec SP version hasn't received any significant modifications in terms of engine, and it is powered by the same twin overhead cam 890cc cross-plane triple CP3 engine that also powers the standard model. The bike also comes with the addition of grilles for acoustic amplifiers placed atop the modified fuel tank, just like the base model.
2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP: India Launch
Although there are speculations that Yamaha might launch the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 in India, it is unlikely that the top-spec SP model will make an appearance in this country. The official launch timeline for the all-new standard MT-09 hasn't been officially announced yet. Industry reports, however, claim that the updated bike may arrive on our shores sometime next year.
