KTM launched the 2025 390 Adventure X in India at Rs 2.91 lakh, while the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is priced from Rs 2.85 lakh to Rs 2.98 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X and the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 are two of the most exciting adventure motorcycles in the mid-range segment, each catering to different riding styles. KTM’s 390 Adventure X is a more affordable variant of its ADV lineup, focusing on lightweight agility and off-road performance with its punchy engine and WP Apex suspension. On the other hand, the all-new Himalayan 450 boasts a larger 450cc Sherpa engine, offering a torquey and relaxed ride with improved off-road capability. While KTM emphasises a tech-laden approach with ride modes and quick handling, Royal Enfield sticks to a rugged, classic ADV ethos. This spec comparison breaks down key differences in power, features, and capability to help you pick the right adventure machine.

KTM introduced the 2025 390 Adventure X in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.91 lakh. In comparison, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 starts at Rs 2.85 lakh, with the top-end variant priced at Rs 2.98 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).

The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X debuts with a striking new look, inspired by KTM’s Dakar Rally machines. Its front end features a vertically stacked dual-LED headlamp setup enclosed within an LED DRL, accompanied by a tall windscreen that enhances its aggressive styling. The angular fuel tank and extended single-piece seat contribute to its sharp, adventure-ready stance, while the slim tail section is fitted with a compact LED taillight. Buyers can choose from Electronic Orange and Ceramic White paint jobs.

On the other hand, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 takes a more utilitarian approach. It sports a classic round LED headlamp, a split-seat setup, a large tear-drop fuel tank safeguarded by protective guards, as well as a narrow rear section with seamlessly integrated indicators. Offered in five distinct shades, its rugged yet understated aesthetic is designed to attract a wider audience.

The 390 Adventure X is powered by a 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, delivering 45bhp of power and 39Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox featuring a slip-and-assist clutch for smoother engagement and a bidirectional quickshifter for seamless gear changes.

Meanwhile, the Himalayan 450 is equipped with the Sherpa 450 engine, a 452cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled unit producing 39bhp and 40Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed transmission, ensuring consistent and controlled power delivery.

The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X comes equipped with an inverted telescopic front fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear, both offering 200mm of suspension travel to enhance ride comfort and control on rough terrain. The braking setup consists of a 320mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear, mounted on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels for a well-balanced ride. With a seat height of 825mm and ground clearance of 227mm, it is designed to handle varying road conditions with ease. The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 14.5 litres and weighs 177kg (kerb weight).

In contrast, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is built on a twin-spar tubular frame, offering durability and stability for adventure riding. It features 43mm upside-down front forks and a Showa monoshock at the rear, both providing 200mm of travel for optimal shock absorption. The motorcycle rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels, now available with optional tubeless tyres for added practicality. Braking is managed by a 320mm front disc and a 270mm rear disc, with the added benefit of switchable rear ABS for better off-road control. The seat height is adjustable between 825mm and 845mm, with an optional lower seat variant reducing it to 805mm. The Himalayan 450 is equipped with a larger 17-litre fuel tank and has a kerb weight of 196kg, making it a robust option for long-distance touring.

The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X features a TFT instrument display, identical to the one found on the standard 390 Adventure. It comes equipped with dual-channel ABS, which allows the rear-wheel ABS to be switched off, along with a dedicated off-road ABS mode for enhanced control on uneven surfaces. The TFT screen supports Bluetooth connectivity, enabling riders to receive call and message notifications, access turn-by-turn navigation, and control music playback. The bike also boasts all-LED lighting and has a USB charging port conveniently positioned beside the display for easy device charging.

In contrast, the Himalayan 450 is fitted with a 4-inch circular TFT screen that enables smartphone connectivity and allows users to control music. One of its standout features is Google Maps-powered navigation. The motorcycle also includes two riding modes – Eco and Performance, a dual-channel ABS with the option to disable the rear-wheel ABS, full-LED lighting, and a USB charging port placed near the instrument console for added convenience.
