Deliveries have only commenced in Bengaluru and Chennai to start with, other major cities will follow soon. Ather Energy has started delivering the Series 1 special edition models as well

Ather Energy expanded their product portfolio by introducing the 450X and the Series 1 special edition model earlier this year. While the company was scheduled to commence soon after, the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic led to some delays. The Bengaluru-based start-up starting accepting full payments for the electric scooter on 31st October and has now started deliveries as well. As of now, deliveries have only commenced in Bengaluru and Chennai. Deliveries in other cities like Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai are expected to commence soon as well.

The Ather 450X powered by a 2.9kWh Lithium-ion battery pack that produces 8bhp and 26Nm. The company claims that the 450X can dismiss the naught to 40km/h run in just 3.3 seconds and can record a top-speed of 80km/h. With a larger battery pack under the neatly crafted body, charge times are relatively higher as well – 5 hours 45 minutes for a full charge. Nearly 80% of the charge can be attained in 3 hours 35 minutes though. On the upside, the riding range has increased too and now stands at 70km in the Ride mode and 85km in the Eco mode.

At the time of launch in January, Ather had announced a battery subscription model for the 450X but withdrew it last month. Instead, the company announced a buy back scheme for the 450X. According to this new initiative, Ather offers an assured buy back of Rs 85,000 for the 450X scooter at the end of three years.

Ather Energy has also reportedly raised $35 million as Series D funding - $23 million by Sachin Bansal (former CEO of Flipkart) and another $12 million from Hero MotoCorp.
