Ather Energy has officially launched the 340 and 450 electric smart scooters in India at Rs 1.09 lakh and Rs 1.24 lakh respectively (On-Road). Customers can now book both these scooters on the Ather Energy website with deliveries expected to commence in August.

Keeping in mind regular petrol-powered scooters, the price of the Ather Energy offerings may seem a bit steep but the company says the price includes a lot of other facilities that will make the ownership experience a lot more peaceful. To achieve this, the company has also launched ‘Ather One’ that takes care of all your service related issues right from routine maintenance, consumables, labour charges, roadside assistance and in the case of these scooters, charging. As part of Ather One, the company will take care of all of the aforementioned aspects for a single flat fee of Rs 700 per month. Interestingly, this service will be free of cost for all customers for the first year. Additionally, customers will also get a 5-ampere charging cable with the 340 and an Ather Grid installed at home for no additional charge.

Both scooters are powered by a BLDC (Brushless Direct Current) Motor but the 450 makes 7.2bhp while the 340 churns out 5.8bhp. But the highlight of both these offerings is the torque it delivers. The 340 has a max torque rating of 20Nm while the 450 puts 20.5Nm to the ground – almost equivalent to some of the 200cc motorcycles in the market. The 340, as well as the 450, have been fitted with a weatherproof 2.4kWh battery that gives it a range of 60km. Ather Energy claims that the 450 can do the 450 can do the 0-40km/h dash in just 3.9 seconds and the 340 in 5.1 seconds.

Both the scooters come fitted with a touchscreen instrument cluster that also gives you a navigation option apart from regular information like odo and trip readings, range, average speed and more. Both scooters come with a disc brake at the front as well as at the back.

Ather Energy also has a rather enticing finance option. Customers can buy the scooters at a rate of interest of just 8.5 percent with a tenure that extends up to 5 years. With all that the company offers, it seems that they have given the product, service as well as the ownership experience a great deal of thought. All that remains is for us to ride it and bring you a detailed review soon. Stay tuned.
