Bajaj Chetak Electric: What you need to know

In October 2019, Bajaj marked a significant milestone as it revealed its first-ever electric two-wheeler. If this wasn't enough, the homegrown marque also resurrected its iconic Chetak nameplate with it. Bajaj is set to launch the Chetak Electric this month, on 14th.

Here's a low-down on what you can expect from Bajaj's debut electric two-wheeler...

In October 2019, Bajaj revealed its first-ever electric two-wheeler. If this wasn't enough, the home-grown marque also resurrected its iconic Chetak nameplate. Based on the announcement made in October and the information that we've received, Bajaj is set to launch the Chetak Electric this month on 14th. Here's a look at what you can expect from the new Chetak.

Motor & power specs

The Chetak Electric is powered by a non-swappable IP67-rated Li-ion battery that sends power to a 4kW electric motor. The exact power figures and other specs will be revealed at the time of its launch.

Riding modes

Bajaj claims that the Chetak Electric has been designed with performance in mind. This is supported by the fact that it gets two riding modes (Eco & Sport). While Eco mode will offer the maximum riding range, the latter mode will open the taps for maximum performance.

Kinetic Energy re-generation

In its second avatar, the Chetak Electric will go on sale as a premium product from Bajaj. To justify the claim, the electric scooter is loaded with some top-notch features like an onboard regenerative braking system (braking energy recharges the battery).

Battery charging

It's not confirmed yet whether the Chetak Electric will come equipped with fast-charging or not. However, it can be charged via a standard 5/15A household socket. Further, Bajaj will also offer a well-priced home-charging station for it. With an official riding range figure yet to be released, Bajaj claims the Chetak Electric can go for about 100km on a single full charge.

Premium product = premium pricing

With numerous upmarket features like an LED headlamp, a digital instrument cluster, feather-touch activated switchgear, sequential scrolling LED blinkers, a soft-closing glove box, & a dampened seat closing mechanism, there's no doubt that the Chetak Electric will command a premium over most electric scooters out there. Therefore, expect the Chetak Electric to carry a price tag of around ₹1 lakh.
