BMW Motorrad is all set to launch its all-new middleweight offerings - the F 900 R and F 900 XR - in India, come May 21, 2020.

As we had reported roughly a month ago, BMW Motorrad will be launching the all-new F 900 R in the country this month. Not only that, along with the launch of the naked F 900 R, the company has also announced that it is bringing along its adventure sports sibling, the F 900 XR. The launch of the new bikes will take place digitally on May 21, 2020.

The F 900 R and F 900 XR made their global debut at the EICMA show in Milan in 2019. Both the motorcycles are based on the same platform as the F 850 GS and feature the same engine architecture. However, in the 900 siblings, the engine has a bigger bore than the F 850’s parallel-twin powerplant and as a result, it’s of slightly larger capacity (895cc vs 853cc). The engine develops more power and torque, too, as it’s rated at 103bhp and produces 92Nm. Power transmission duties are carried out by a six-speed transmission.

Both the motorcycles feature a modified version of the F 850 GS’ steel bridge frame. Suspension on both motorcycles includes a non-adjustable 43mm upside down front fork and a mono-shock at the back. The F 900 XR, however, has more suspension travel on both wheels than the F 900 R – 170 mm vs 135mm at the front, and 172mm vs 142mm at the rear. Both the motorcycles will also be offered with semi-active electronic suspension, or Dynamic ESA, at the rear wheel.

Standard equipment on both bikes will include LED headlamps, a 6.5-inch colour TFT display with Bluetooth, two standard riding modes – Rain and Road – ABS, and traction control. There will two more riding modes available as optional extras with Dynamic Package. Cornering ABS, a quick-shifter, adaptive cornering lights and keyless ignition will be optional as well. The F 900 XR will have the option of heated grips, cruise control and panniers, too.

The F 900 R is expected to be launched at a price of around Rs 10-11 lakh (ex-showroom), while the F 900 XR will carry a price-tag close to Rs 12-14 lakh (ex-showroom).
