2020 BMW S 1000 XR

Designed to offer the best of both worlds, the new BMW S 1000 XR offers a blend of the sporty genes of the iconic S 1000 RR and the long-distance ergonomic comfort of the company’s GS range of adventure motorcycles.

Ever since BMW’s GS range of adventure motorcycles hit the country, we have gone on a number of cross country journeys to enjoy the capabilities of these motorcycles. So, if you too are an avid adventure motorcyclist, you would understandably be excited to know that BMW has just brought its new S 1000 XR to India. For the uninitiated, the S 1000 XR is BMW’s internationally best-selling adventure sports bike that offers a blend of the sporty genes of the iconic BMW RR badge with the ergonomics of the company’s GS badge.

The BMW S 1000 XR will be brought into the company’s showrooms in India via the CBU route and will be available across all BMW Motorrad showrooms in the country. The new S 1000 XR is designed to provide performance inspired by the legendary S 1000 RR while offering long-distance ergonomic comfort of a touring motorcycle for those motorcyclists who enjoy cross country touring on the tarmac. Which is to say that the S 1000 XR is decidedly better suited for paved roads.

Like the new BMW S 1000 RR, the S 1000 XR, as its name suggests, too, is powered by the same 999cc in-line four-cylinder engine. In the XR, it develops 163bhp @ 11,000rpm and 114Nm @ 9,250rpm. This gives the motorcycle a rated 0 – 100km/h time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200km/h. It comes with electrically adjustable suspension and has four riding modes – Road, Rain, Dynamic, and Dynamic Pro.

'The all-new BMW S 1000 XR is an agile achiever that sets a new benchmark in the adventure sports segment. It is a power-packed performer that brings the real racetrack feel to everyday roads. With its newly developed engine and uncompromising ergonomics, it offers awe-inspiring performance, sporty ride, and long-distance capabilities. Riders waiting for a distinctive experience will be drawn to the multi-faceted all-new BMW S 1000 XR. It’s a perfect companion, ready to hit the road for all kind of journeys with sheer motorcycling enjoyment,' Arlindo Teixeira, acting President, BMW Group India, said.

BMW has launched the S 1000 XR in a single variant, which is priced at Rs 20.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
