The BSA Scrambler 650, initially unveiled as a concept at last year's Birmingham Motorcycle Show, has now been launched in the UK, with registrations open for buyers. There is no official confirmation, but we expect the bike to arrive in India soon. The new Scrambler 650 is built on the same platform as the BSA Gold Star 650, which is already available in the Indian market starting at Rs 3.10 lakh. However, the Scrambler has several differences. We compare the two bikes from the same brand to highlight the differences and determine which model is the better choice.

Compared to Gold Star's purely classic roadster aesthetic, the Scrambler 650 has a more rugged, neo-retro design. The Scrambler boasts a raised front fender, practical fork gaiters, an LED headlight, flat and elevated handlebars for an upright riding position, and side panels with number-plate style graphics. Its flat, bench-style seat and distinct, higher-routed exhaust highlight the Scrambler's adventurous character.

Notably, the Scrambler rides on a larger 19-inch front wire-spoke wheel with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR dual-sport tyres. It features a modern, offset, fully digital LCD instrument cluster and a higher 820mm seat height.

In contrast, the Gold Star 650 maintains a timeless retro appeal with a lower-mounted standard front fender, covered forks, a traditional halogen headlight, conventional handlebars, a wide and long touring-focused seat, and a classic chrome-finished exhaust.

The bike uses 18-inch front wire-spoke wheels with Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp road-biased tyres. It has a classic twin-pod, semi-digital instrument cluster and accessible 780mm seat height.
The BSA Scrambler 650 shares its chassis with the Gold Star 650 but differs in key dimensions. It is heavier at 218 kg (vs. 201), and has a longer 1,463mm wheelbase (+38 mm), and a taller 820mm seat height (+40 mm).
| Feature | BSA Scrambler 650 | BSA Gold Star 650 |
| Wet/Kerb Weight | 218 kg (Wet) | 201 kg (Kerb) |
| Wheelbase | 1,463mm | 1,425mm |
| Seat height | 820mm | 780mm |
Both bikes use the same 652cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This unit churns out 45bhp at 6,500rpm and a peak torque of 55Nm at 4,000rpm in the Gold Star 650. It has a 5-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.
In India, the Gold Star 650 ranges from Rs 3.10 lakh to Rs 3.45 lakh (both, ex-showroom). The Legacy edition sits at the top of the lineup with its full chrome treatment.
