Harley-Davidson has kept X440 prices unchanged despite GST hike on bikes above 350cc, absorbing costs to sustain festive demand and mid-capacity sales.

The Harley-Davidson X440 is currently the only model available from the brand’s joint venture with Hero MotoCorp. While its sibling, the Hero Maverick 440, was recently discontinued due to low sales, the X440 continues to find steady demand in its segment. With its prices fixed between Rs 2.40 lakh and Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the chosen variant—Denim, Vivid, or S—the motorcycle remains competitive at a time when many manufacturers face pricing pressure. This decision comes as the festive season begins in India, when two-wheeler sales typically experience an uptick.

By maintaining steady prices during this period, Harley-Davidson is aiming to strengthen its influence in the mid-capacity segment and encourage new buyers who might otherwise hesitate due to tax-driven hikes.
The X440 is a 440cc, air-oil-cooled engine tuned to deliver 26bhp and 38Nm of torque. The motorcycle is paired with a six-speed gearbox and is equipped with a slipper clutch, a feature designed to support a smoother riding experience. These specifications place the X440 in line with the expectations of riders seeking a balance between city use and longer-distance rides.

The model is also strategically important for Harley-Davidson in India, as it represents the entry point into the brand’s portfolio. With the discontinuation of the Hero Maverick 440, the X440 now carries the responsibility of maintaining the momentum of this engine platform, while also giving Indian riders access to the Harley-Davidson name at a relatively accessible price point.
Harley-Davidson is not the only manufacturer choosing to absorb the tax increase. Triumph and KTM, managed under Bajaj Auto in India, have also opted to retain their existing pricing instead of pushing the additional cost onto buyers. This reflects a wider industry approach to sustaining demand and maintaining customer interest despite challenging regulatory adjustments.

For buyers considering new motorcycles in the segment, the Harley-Davidson X440 offers stable pricing, a trusted brand presence, and variant options that cater to different preferences. By not altering its pricing strategy in the face of increased taxation, the company is signalling a focus on long-term market engagement, customer confidence, and competitive positioning in the mid-capacity category.
