New Triumph Street Triple unveiled

Wraps have finally come off the new Triumph Street Triple, and suffice it to say, there’re plenty of surprises in store. Not only does the new Street Triple get a bigger – and more powerful- engine, it also comes in three variants now, namely- Street Triple S, Street Triple R, and Street Triple RS. And there’s a whole bunch of electronic riding modes on offer, too.
First of all, let’s break the new Street Triple range down for you. In comparison to the outgoing model’s 675cc motor, the new Triumph Street Triple models get a bigger 765cc, inline-3 cylinder engine. However, each version gets a different engine tune. The S version will be the entry ticket to the new Street Triple family with a rated power/torque figure of 111bhp/73Nm. The R version will be slightly more powerful with a power output of 116bhp, whereas the range-topping RS will deliver 121bhp. Both the R and RS develop 77Nm of peak torque. Triumph claims that 80 per cent of the engine components are all new including the crank and pistons. Triumph also says that the six-speed gearbox now has shorter 1st and 2nd gear ratios for better acceleration.
Ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, ABS, and Road and Rain riding modes are standard across the range. The R adds Brembo front brakes, slipper clutch, Showa shocks, four riding modes – Sport, Road, Rain and Rider – and a new 5-inch TFT screen with a 5-way joystick control. In addition to what’s offered in the R, the RS gets a few more performance oriented mods. The RS gets uprated Brembo M50 monobloc front brake calipers along with an Ohlins rear monoshock. It also gets a quickshifter and an extra ‘Track’ riding mode. The RS also gets super-sticky Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SPs as opposed to Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsas fitted on the S and R.
The entry-level Triumph Street Triple S carries a price-tag of £8,000 (Rs 6.64 lakh) in the UK, while the prices of the other R and RS are not out as yet. Sales begin from March 2017 in Europe. Expect the new Triumph Street Triple range to arrive on our shores soon after that.
