River Indie Electric Scooter Launched in India at Rs 1.25 Lakh

The Bengaluru-based EV company has launched its first e-scooter in the Indian market. The all-new EV comes with three colour options, including Monsoon Blue, Summer Red, and Spring Yellow.

River, a Bengaluru-based EV company, has launched its first electric scooter in India. The new scooter - Indie, will retail at a price of Rs. 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore), and deliveries for the same will reportedly commence in August 2023. Electric scooters are becoming increasingly popular in India due to their cost-effectiveness and convenience. The Indian government has been pushing for the adoption of electric vehicles in the country, as part of its efforts to reduce emissions and encourage clean energy. Moreover, the demand for electric scooters in India has seen a rapid rise in recent years, with more and more people opting for them as an alternative to petrol and diesel vehicles. Hence, keeping pace with competitors like Ola, Ather, Bajaj, and more, the startup has rolled out its first EV in the market. Mechanical Details 

A 4kWh battery pack with an IP67 rating and a stated real-world range of 120 kilometre powers the River Indie. The River Indie can reach a top speed of 90km/h and accelerate from 0 to 40km/h in 3.9 seconds, all thanks to the mid-mounted motor that produces 9bhp and 26Nm. According to River, a standard charger can charge the battery of the EV to 80% in 5 hours. Both the scooter's battery and its motor have a five-year, 50,000-mile warranty.

Dimensions & Hardware

The e-scooter has 14-inch wheels, a 770mm seat height, a telescopic fork, and a front and rear suspension system with twin shock absorbers. The Indie sports a 165mm ground clearance, 240mm/200mm (front/rear) disc braking setup, and CBS. It is said to have 18 degrees of gradeability (ability to climb inclines).

Feature Kit 

Crash guards and front footpegs are two unique features of the River Indie. The e-scooter comes with two USB charging ports are also included, one on the handlebar and one in the glove box. Further, it offers a variety of add-on luggage choices, including a top box with a capacity of 25 litres and pannier sets with a capacity of up to 40 litres. The Indie comes with all-LED lighting and gets a coloured LCD dash. Moreover, it has three riding modes - Eco, Ride, and Rush.

Design

The e-scooter has a unique appearance due to its twin-beam headlamps and distinctive tail lamp layout. Better handling and stability are promised by the clip-on handlebar, inspired by motorcycles, and safeguards the e-scooter panels in the case of a fall.

Price 

The River Indie is more expensive than the TVS iQube S but is priced lower than the Bajaj Chetak, the Ola S1 Pro, and the Ather 450X at Rs 1.25 lakh ex-showroom (introductory price).

Bookings for the River Indie are open, and interested buyers can place an order via the official website. The deliveries of the e-scooter are expected to begin in August 2023. Further, according to the reports, River will start selling the Indie e-scooter in Bengaluru shortly, with hopes to spread to 50 Indian cities by 2024.
