Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450

The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is new in the 400cc segment, challenging the Triumph Speed 400, Harley-Davidson X440, Hero Mavrick 440, and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401. It is a retro-styled roadster, which offers a modern, liquid-cooled motor and a dynamic chassis. It is positioned as a reasonable and city-friendly alternative to the Himalayan 450, with which it shares the powertrain. Priced from Rs 2.39 lakh to Rs 2.54 lakh (introductory prices, ex-showroom), the Guerrilla 450 is available in three variants – Analogue, Dash, and Flash. Royal Enfield allows potential buyers to choose from a variety of exciting colours: Playa Black, Smoke Silver, Gold Dip, Brava Blue, and Yellow Ribbon.

However, for those seeking something with the ingredients of both a roadster and an adventure tourer, the new Svartpilen 401 from Husqvarna could be an option to go for. Positioned as a scrambler, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is a neo-retro product with a rugged build. Based on the Gen 3 KTM 390 Duke, the 2024 Svartpilen 401 carries a price tag of Rs 2.92 lakh (ex-showroom), making it about Rs 38,000 more expensive than the top-spec variant of the Guerrilla 450. To help you understand which option is right for you, here is a comparison between the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401.

Despite being a smaller-displacement motorcycle, the Svartpilen 401 develops more power than the Guerrilla 450. The 399cc engine is rated for 45bhp at 9,000rpm and 39Nm at 7,000rpm. This bike also employs a 6-speed gearbox.

Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 Flash

The Guerrilla 450 roadster uses a steel tubular twin-spar frame, whereas the Svartpilen 401 features a steel trellis frame. Though the Guerrilla uses a simpler telescopic fork at the front, the telescopic unit is on par with an upside-down fork on the Svartpilen 401. The rear suspension is the same for both bikes – mono-shock. The Svartpilen 401 offers adjustability at both ends, whereas the Guerrilla 450 comes with a preload-adjustable rear suspension system.

The braking setup on the Guerrilla 450 includes a 270mm rear disc, which is bigger than the 240mm disc used by the Svartpilen 401. Nevertheless, the latter has a bigger 320mm front disc with a radial calliper compared to a 310mm front disc with an axial calliper offered on the Guerrilla 450. Both bikes have dual-channel ABS.

The Guerrilla 450 rolls on 120/70 front and 160/60 rear tubeless CEAT tyres with 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, whereas the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 sports 17-inch spoked wheels wrapped in 110/70 front and 150/60 rear tubed tyres.

Tipping the scale at 185kg, the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 weighs more than the Svartpilen 401 (171.2kg). It even has a longer wheelbase, standing at 1,440mm. In comparison, the Svartpilen 401 gets a 1,368mm long wheelbase.

As for the seat height, the new Royal Enfield should be more accessible for shorter riders, thanks to its lower seat height, measuring 780mm. Though the Svartpilen 401 has a taller ground clearance of 177mm, its seat height of 820mm might be a concern for some.
