When the high-performance supersport, the 990 RC R, made its global debut late last year, KTM announced that its track-spec version would arrive in February 2026. Fast forward to today, and the KTM 990 RC R Track entered the scene, with deliveries slated to begin in April. With all road-legal components removed, it is lighter than its standard counterpart. The track-only model also delivers more power from the same 947cc parallel-twin LC8c engine. Here are all the key changes made to the 990 RC R ‘a stripped-back, souped-up adrenaline monster primed for circuit use’.

To transform it into a purebred, non-street-legal supersport, KTM has removed several components, including lights, mirrors, the side stand, and other street-legal requirements. These changes have resulted in a significant weight reduction, making the new KTM track-ready model (181 kg kerb) approximately 14 kg lighter than its standard 990 RC R (195 kg kerb). KTM has also fitted a lightweight Akrapovic exhaust.
The 990 RC R Track gets a slightly taller windscreen for a more tucked-in riding position. It comes with a wet-weather taillight and a paddock as standard. KTM states that the aerodynamics take cues from its MotoGP RC16, with sculpted wings and edges engineered to maximise downforce, cornering grip, and stability under hard acceleration.

KTM has trimmed about 2 kg from the 990 RC R Track by using a more compact electronics system. Riders can choose from three Track modes to customise traction, throttle response, launch control, engine braking, wheel slip, and anti-wheelie. The bike also packs a pit limiter, a 4.2-inch full-color TFT screen, and a bi-directional quickshifter.

The 990 RC R Track stands out with Michelin Power Slick tyres and fully adjustable WP APEX suspension tuned for the circuit. Braking comes from Brembo Hypure callipers on a 320mm front and 240mm rear disc.
The 947cc parallel-twin LC8c engine in the track-ready 990 RC R produces 133bhp and 105Nm, around 5bhp and 2Nm more than the standard model, which generates 128bhp and 103Nm. The engine boasts a race-tuned gearbox with a longer first and shorter sixth gear.
