Triumph Thruxton 400

Considering the near production-ready test mule shots that emerged recently, Triumph's fourth motorcycle based on the 400cc platform – likely to be called the Thruxton 400 – could be launched soon in India. We say 'likely' because Triumph made the decision to move on from the Thruxton nameplate last year. The Triumph Thruxton Final Edition revealed in October 2023 is the last of its kind for the international market.

Coming back to the present day, the model spotted has modern-retro cafe racer styling, borrowing cues from Triumph's 400cc twins and the larger Thruxton 1200. Visible elements include a half-fairing, raked visor, single-piece seat, repositioned turn indicators, bar-end mirrors, clip-on handlebars, and centre-set footpegs. Rounding off the cafe racer styling is a pillion seat cowl. Unlike the Speed 400's, the taillamp on the upcoming Thruxton 400 is a simpler rectangular strip.

Triumph Thruxton 400: Engine, Hardware

Based on the same platform as the company's 400cc range (Speed T4, Speed 400, Scrambler 400X), the Thruxton 400 should come with a 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that makes 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm of peak torque. Triumph's 399cc liquid-cooled engine jointly developed with Bajaj is coupled with a six-speed gearbox.

As for the hardware, the spy photos reveal upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. The latter is expected to get preload adjustability. It is also likely that the front and rear disc brakes will measure 300mm/320mm and 230mm, respectively.

Triumph Thruxton 400: Electronics

A slip-and-assist clutch, dual-channel ABS, traction control, and ride-by-wire will likely make up the electronics suite. In terms of instrumentation, Triumph might offer a semi-analogue cluster.

Triumph could position the Thruxton 400 between the Speed 400 (Rs 2.40 lakh) and the Scrambler 400X (Rs 2.65 lakh). Both prices are ex-showroom.
