Yamaha India is planning to enter the maxi-scooter segment in India with the Aerox 155. The scooter will directly rival the likes of the Aprilia SXR 160.

A leaked government document confirms that Yamaha is all set to launch the Aerox 155 scooter in India. The new Japanese scooter will directly rival Aprilia’s SXR 160, which retails at Rs 1.26 lakh (Ex-showroom) in the Indian market.

The Aerox 155 will step into the maxi-scooter segment, with a larger engine than all other Yamaha scooters on sale. The Aerox packs the same 155cc single-cylinder engine that does duty in the MT-15 and YZF-R15 V3. While in these motorcycles, the engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, in the Aerox 155, the same engine will be clubbed to a CVT.

The leaked government document also confirms that the Aerox 155 will have a power output of 14.7bhp at 8,000rpm. In comparison to the MT-15 and the YZF-R15 V3, the figure is lower by 3.5bhp. When compared to its key rival, the SXR 160, the power output of the Aerox 155 is higher by 4.1bhp. The kerb weight of the Aerox 155 is marked at 122kg, which is 6kgs lesser than that of the SXR 160. This will make the Yamaha Aerox 155 a substantially fast scooter in the segment.

The mechanicals of the scooter will include telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. There will be a disc-brake unit on offer at the front, along with ABS. The wheels will be 14 inches, while the tyre section will be as wide as 140mm on both ends.
