Yamaha has launched the EC-06 electric scooter in India, after unveiling it in November last year. The EV is the product of a collaboration with EV start-up River, and is based on the River Indie scooter. It carries a price tag of Rs 1.68 lakh and is offered in an eye-catching Bluish White shade. The scooter marks Yamaha’s foray into the electric mobility segment, and will be sold exclusively in select cities through the brand’s premium Blue Square showrooms. In the fiercely competitive electric scooter market, the EC-06 positions itself against popular rivals, including the Ola S1, the Bajaj Chetak, and the TVS iQube.
Yamaha has given its first electric commuter some distinctive design elements that help it stand out from the model (River Indie) on which it is based. These include a twin-pod vertical headlight setup and a streamlined tail section. The scooter also gets a reworked front apron, angular triangular side panels, and turn indicators positioned below the handlebars. The overall styling makes the EC-06 look sharper and more contemporary.
The EC-06 has a coloured LCD instrument cluster paired with a built-in telematics unit featuring SIM-based connectivity, which enables riders to access real-time data, monitor the scooter remotely, and explore potential future ride analytics. It also has 24.5 litres of under-seat storage, three riding modes (Eco, Standard, and Power), a telescopic fork, a monoshock, and 14-inch alloy wheels.

The first-ever Yamaha electric scooter comes equipped with 200mm front and rear disc brakes and a Combi Brake System (CBS).
The Yamaha EC-06 features an IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) paired with a 4kWh fixed battery, which produces 8.98bhp and 26Nm. The top speed stands at 79km/h, while the claimed IDC range is 169 kilometres.
The battery is backed by a 3-year or 30,000 km warranty and can be easily charged using a standard home socket, reaching full capacity in about eight hours.
