Yamaha has unveiled its new electric commuter, the EC-06, alongside the battery-powered Aerox. The EC-06 is based on River’s Indie electric scooter, reflecting the collaboration between Yamaha and the EV start-up that began in 2024. Upon its expected launch in Q1 2026, it will compete with prominent models in the segment such as the Ola S1, Bajaj Chetak, and TVS iQube. Although the EC-06 is built on the River Indie platform, Yamaha has introduced a distinctive design. The EC-06 stands out with a twin-pod vertically stacked headlight and a sleek tail section. Other details include a reworked front apron, sharp triangular side panels, and turn signals located below the handlebars.
The EC-06 comes with a 4kWh fixed lithium-ion battery paired with an electric motor producing a peak output of 6.7kW (around 8.85bhp). The scooter offers an IDC-certified range of 160 kilometres on a single charge. It has a top speed of 90km/h, while a full recharge from a standard home socket takes roughly 9 hours.
The EC-06 has a coloured LCD instrument cluster paired with a built-in telematics unit featuring SIM-based connectivity, which allows real-time data access, remote monitoring, and the possibility for future ride analytics.
