Yamaha cuts prices of YZF-R3 and MT-03 by over Rs 20,000 under GST 2.0, making premium twin-cylinder bikes more affordable for Indian riders.

Yamaha Motor India has revised the prices of its YZF-R3 and MT-03 motorcycles, making them more competitive in the entry-level performance segment. The reduction follows the rollout of the GST 2.0 tax reform, which has lowered overall taxation on two-wheelers. With this move, both models are now more than Rs 20,000 cheaper than before, increasing affordability for riders interested in premium twin-cylinder motorcycles. This marks the second price correction from Yamaha for the R3 and MT-03 within a year, signalling the brand’s intention to make these products more attractive to a wider audience. By passing on the benefits of the updated tax system directly to customers, Yamaha is looking to strengthen its presence in the mid-capacity motorcycle market while appealing to riders who previously found the pricing difficult to justify.

The Yamaha R3 now has a new price tag of Rs 3.39 lakh (ex-showroom), down from Rs 3.60 lakh. This brings a direct benefit of Rs 20,872 for buyers. Similarly, the Yamaha MT-03 has seen its price drop from Rs 3.50 lakh to Rs 3.30 lakh, giving customers a saving of Rs 20,292.

Despite the reduced pricing, there are no changes to the design, specifications, or features of either motorcycle. The models remain unchanged in hardware and performance, but at their revised costs, they now offer better value for money in the performance-focused segment.
Both the Yamaha R3 and MT-03 are powered by a 321cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. The motor produces 41.42bhp and 29.5Nm of torque and comes paired with a six-speed gearbox. The motorcycles feature upside-down front forks, a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear, and disc brakes on both wheels with dual-channel ABS as standard. This setup ensures everyday usability as well as capability for longer rides, while maintaining a balance between performance and comfort.

When Yamaha reintroduced the R3 and MT-03 in India in 2023, they were priced at Rs 4.65 lakh and Rs 4.60 lakh, respectively. These prices met with criticism for being less competitive compared to rivals, limiting their customer base. Over the past year, Yamaha has made efforts to reposition the models, with the latest cuts under GST 2.0 bringing them closer to customer expectations. This latest move makes the bikes more accessible while retaining their premium engineering.

The GST 2.0 reforms are aimed at making two-wheelers up to 350cc more affordable, creating benefits for both manufacturers and buyers across segments. Yamaha’s decision to immediately reflect the revised tax impact in its pricing underlines the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the mid-capacity market.
