Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has priced the 2018 Santro in India at ₹ 3.89 lakh for the base D-LITE variant. Ever since the first spy pics of the test car emerged, the Hyundai Santro has gone on to become one of the most awaited car launches of this year. Now though, the Korean marque's latest entrant in the hatchback segment is here and while most of the details had already surfaced prior to the launch, we take you through a quick recap of what this new hatchback has to offer.

Based on Hyundai's K1 platform, the new Santro offers a spacious and roomy cabin. While the design philosophy is based on the 'Tall Boy' concept, the increase in length and width to compensate for the tall stance is where the new Santro shines, combining larger proportions with modern styling. The interiors have been finished in a dual-tone combination of beige and black with champagne gold inserts. The new Santro is now the first car in its segment to offer rear AC vents, a welcome feature for those painfully hot summer days.

Furthering the interior highlights, the model also gets a segment-first 17.64cm Touchscreen Audio Video System with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link connectivity. To add on to the list of new-age features, the multimedia system also features voice recognition and 'iblue' smartphone app support. What's more, the infotainment system screen also doubles up as a display for the reverse parking camera, another segment-first feature in the new Santro.

Some of the other convenience features which will be available in the new car include front and rear power windows, remote keyless entry, electrically-adjustable ORVMs, rear defogger and a rear wash/wipe setup. In terms of safety, Hyundai has fitted the new Santro with all the essentials such as ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, impact-sensing auto door unlock, rear parking sensors and seat belt pretensioner.

For its powertrain, the 2018 Santro will feature a 1.1-litre, four-cylinder petrol motor which produces 68bhp and 99Nm of torque. While a new 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard fitment, the new Santro also marks Hyundai's debut in the AMT space as it will be the first Hyundai car in India to be available with an in-house developed Smart Auto AMT gearbox. To compensate for a missing diesel option, the new Santro will be available in a CNG-powered variant as well. Power output with the CNG option stands at 59bhp. While the ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure is pegged at 20.3km/l for the petrol MT and AMT variants, the CNG variant will be good for 30.48km/kg.

Hyundai will offer the new Santro in 7 exterior colour options and to make the ownership experience rewarding, the brand is also offering a 3-year/100,000km warranty (segment first) and a 3-year road-side assistance as part of the 'Santro First Care' initiative.
