BMW Group India has finally launched the much-awaited 7 Series and the i7 electric sedan in India. The luxury carmaker has priced the new-generation 7 series at Rs 1.70 crore, whereas the brand-new i7 boasts a price tag of Rs 1.95 crore. The launch took place at the latest iteration of BMW's Joytown event in Mumbai. Last month, the manufacturer confirmed that it intends to launch eight new models in India by January 2023. With three new models already launched during the BMW Joytown Delhi edition in December 2022, the remaining five Bimmers were set to be launched at the Joytown Mumbai (January 7 and 8) and Bengaluru editions (January 28). The firm showcased its lineup of BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad during the Joytown festival, which also featured music and driving events. Now, let's take a closer look at the design, features, and specifications of the newly launched models.

Bmw 7 Series 1

The seventh-generation BMW 7 Series made its global debut in early 2022, and it marks a significant step forward in terms of performance and technology over its predecessor. It is more sumptuous than its predecessor. The overall design language has also changed dramatically and is now headlined by a huge new kidney grille and split headlights. A flat bonnet and a strong shoulder line maintain the saloon's extended aspect. The styling features of the i7 are quite similar, with the exception of distinguishing blue accents. The new 7 Series gets 20-inch alloy wheels, with an option to upgrade to 21-inch wheels.

The interior of the all-new 7 Series as well as the i7 EV has been completely redesigned in comparison to the existing BMW line-up. The new Live Cockpit Plus features dual dashboard screens. The 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and 14.9-inch infotainment screen are both curved and made of a single piece of glass. It features the iDrive 8 user interface, along with a new interaction bar with touch-capacitive control for ventilation and climate control.

The rear bench has received some significant modifications, including an optional 31.3-inch 8K theatre screen display. The cinema screen detaches from the roof at the push of a button and includes web connectivity for you to watch your favourite shows on the go. The inside is further embellished with remarkable detailing, leather upholstery, and cutting-edge materials and textures. The new 7 Series and i7 come standard with 18 in-car speakers, four of which are incorporated into the headliner for a complete 4D audio experience.

In the international market, the new-generation BMW 7 Series is available with three powertrain options. These include a mild-hybrid petrol unit, diesel engines, and a plug-in hybrid petrol engine. However, for the time being, BMW is only providing one engine option in India – a 375bhp, 3.0-litre, inline-six-cylinder petrol (740i). This engine now features mild-hybrid technology and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The diesel variant will be introduced later in the year. The 7 Series also features adaptive air suspension and electrically adjustable dampers as standard. On the other hand, the BMW i7 electric sedan will be equipped with a 101.7kWh battery pack, which will offer a range of 590 – 625 kilometres (WLTP Cycle) on a single charge. The xDrive 60 model with two electric motors, producing a combined output of 536bhp, will be offered in the Indian market.

Earlier this month, the BMW India Group launched the S 1000 RR, M340i facelift, and XM hybrid SUV in the market during the BMW Joytown music festival. Additionally, BMW is also expected to launch the new X1 in the Bengaluru edition of the event to be held on January 28, 2022.
