2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge Plus, Ultimate Variants Explained: What's Different?

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is the brand's first electric vehicle in India, which went on sale in 2022 with a single dual-motor setup. The Swedish automaker, however, recently introduced an entry-level model to the portfolio, making the e-SUV more affordable. The new variant, called the Plus (formerly known as the 'Single'), has a sticker price of Rs 54.95 lakh (ex-showroom), with reservations currently open for Rs 1 lakh. The Ultimate variant of the SUV costs Rs 57.90 lakh, which is 2.95 lakh more than the base model. While the newly released Plus model has rear-wheel drive, the dual-motor version comes with an all-wheel drive. All prices are ex-showroom. 

The SUV offers two battery packs: 69kWh and 78kWh. The Plus model has a smaller 69kWh battery and a rear-axle-mounted electric motor that produces 236bhp and 420Nm. In comparison, the Ultimate model sports a larger 78kWh battery and two electric motors, one on each axle, which delivers 402bhp and 660Nm.

The Plus model's claimed WLTP range is 475 kilometres, while the dual-motor Ultimate variant has a range of 505 kilometres. The former (Plus) can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds, but the latter (Ultimate) can do it in 4.9 seconds. However, the maximum speed for both models is 180km/h.
